Gearin, Jackson pace SMU during Day 2

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — Aidan Gatz (Elburn, Ill.) got the Saint Mary's University track and field teams off on the right foot at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Friday.
 
And Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) and Co. picked up right where Gatz left off.
 
Coming off four Top 5 performance during Friday's opening day of the two-day conference indoor championships, the Cardinals added three more during Day 2 on Saturday — highlighted by Gearin's third-place, 3.32-meter effort in the pole vault.
 
Gearin also had a hand in one of the Cardinals' other two Top 5 performances, joining Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.), Lilly Maul (Madelia, Minn.), and Nathalie Freire (Bloomington, Minn.) to stop the clock in 1:51.40 in the 4x200 relay.
 
The men's 4x200 also posted a fifth-place time, as Garrett Jackson, Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.), Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.), and Isaiah Brindamour (Hinckley, Minn.) teamed for a time of 1:33.33.
 
The women's 4x400 relay team of Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.), Nathalie Freire (Bloomington, Minn.), Gearin and Klausler clocked a time of 4:12.82 to finish seventh, with the men's 4x400 — Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.), Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.), Brindamour and Jackson — finished eighth in 3:31.68.
 
Other Saturday highlights included: Jackson (8th in the 200, 23.25; Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn. / 8th in the shot put, 12.04m); Klausler (10th in the 200, 27.24; Dan Cooper (Belle Plaine, Minn. / 11th in the triple jump, 12.34m); Brindamour (13th in the 600, 1:26.58); Sean Curran (Appleton, Wis / 14th in the shot put, 12.60m); Swanson (16th in the 600, 1:44.51); and Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis. / 18th in the shot put (10.38m).
