Polzin scored the game’s only goal in leading SMU to a 1-0 victory over St. Catherine last Friday, while Leib added a third-period goal in the Cardinals’ 3-1 loss to SCU the following afternoon.
• 2 x 1: The Saint Mary’s track and field teams picked up a pair of first-place finishes at last Saturday’s UW-River Falls Winter Classic. Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.) won the 60 with a time of 8.29, while Garrett Jackson (West Linn, Ore.) delivered a first-place time of 23.12 in the 200.
• 3-0: The Saint Mary’s men’s tennis team went a perfect 3-for-3 in its weekend trip to Green Bay, Wis., picking up wins over Ripon (8-1), Lawrence (7-2), and St. Norbert (8-1). With the 3-0 weekend, the Cardinals improved to 4-2 on the year.
• 4: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) picked up his fourth double-double of the season in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 73-70 loss to Gustavus last Wednesday, scoring 23 points and adding 12 rebounds.
• 6 x 2: Josh Janssen (Green Bay, Wis.) and E.J. Hietala (Duluth, Minn.) were undefeated in the Saint Mary’s men’s tennis team’s victories over Ripon, Lawrence, and St. Norbert last weekend, both picking up singles and doubles wins in the 8-1, 7-2, and 8-1 triumphs.
• 6: Six of the Saint Mary’s men’s tennis team’s 18 singles matches last weekend went to a third set. The Cardinals were 5-1 in those six three-setters en route to victories over Ripon (8-1), Lawrence (7-2), and St. Norbert (8-1).
• 6 = 1,000: With her sixth point against Gustavus last Wednesday, Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) became the 12th playing in women’s basketball program history to score 1,000 career points — and the first since Brandi Blattner ’19 joined the 1,000=point Club.
• 8: Brooklyn Paulson tied a single-game program record, raining in eight 3-pointers en route to her career-high 32-point effort in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 67-64 win over Gustavus last Wednesday. Ashley Luehmann ’06 is the only other Cardinal to net eight 3-pointers in a game, achieving the feat against St. Catherine on Jan. 22, 2005.
• 20 x 2 x 2: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) and Noah Frechette (Lakeville, Minn.) each scored 20 or more points in both of the SMU men’s basketball team’s games last week. Anthony scored 23 points and Frechette chipped in 21 in SMU’s 73-70 loss to Gustavus last Wednesday, before adding 22- and 20-point performances, respectively, in the Cardinals’ 77-64 win over Bethel three days later.
• 21: The Saint Mary’s track and field teams combined for 21 Top 5 finishes at last Saturday’s UW-River Falls Winter Classic. The SMU men — behind Garrett Jackson’s (West Linn, Ore.) first-place effort in the 200 — posted 12 Top 5s, while the Cardinal women, led by Sydney Klausler’s (Lakeville, Minn.) winning performance in the 60, chipped in nine.
• 29: Ary Ziakas (Palatine, Ill.) stopped all 29 shots she faced en route to her second shutout of the season in the Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team’s 1-0 victory over St. Catherine last Friday. Ziakas has now posted five shutouts in her collegiate career.
• 32: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) scored a career-high 32 points — including her 1,000 point as a Cardinal — in the Cardinal women’s basketball team’s 67-64 win over Gustavus last Wednesday. Paulson’s 32-point effort is the highest by a Cardinal since Alexa Huisman netted 32 against Hamline on Jan. 20, 2018.
• 47: The Cardinal men’s basketball team erupted for 47 second-half points in last Saturday’s 77-64 win over Bethel. The 47 points were the most in a half this season by the Cardinals, who have netted 40 or more points in a half five times — four of which have come in the second half.
