• 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1: The Saint Mary’s baseball team scored solo runs in each of the first five innings of its 8-6 win over Bethel last Wednesday in the second game of the teams’ conference doubleheader.
• 2: The Cardinal baseball team belted two home runs in their doubleheader split against Bethel last Wednesday. Mason Coyle (Madison, Wis.) clubbed his second home run of the season in Game 1, and Daniel Marxen (Maple Grove, Minn.) added his team-leading fourth round-tripper of the year — a three-run blast — in the nightcap.
• 2 x 3: Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) and Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.) both picked up Top 2 finishes in three events for the SMU women’s track and field team at last Friday’s Rittgers Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Gearin won the pole vault and finished second in both the 400 and 4x100 relay, while Klausler was also a member of that 4x100 relay, and added second-place efforts in the long jump and the 100.
• 2 x 3: The Cardinal fastpitch softball team used a pair of three-run innings and banged out 12 hits in grabbing a 6-2 win in the opening game of their MIAC doubleheader against Hamline last Monday.
• 3: The Saint Mary’s track and field teams picked up three first-place finishes at last Friday’s Rittgers Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) — who has dominated the javelin during the early stages of the outdoor season — showed her versatility, winning the 800 with a time of 2:26.21, while Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) delivered a first-place mark of 3.10 meters in winning the pole vault. Frankie Bakalars (La Crosse, Wis.), meanwhile, led a 1-2 showing in the hammer throw for the Cardinal men, winning with a mark of 47.77 meters to outdistance teammate Sean Curran (Appleton, Wis.), who placed second with a throw of 46.98 meters.
• 3: Andrew Fischer (La Crosse, Wis.) earned his third save for the Saint Mary’s baseball team in last Wednesday’s 8-6, Game 2 win over Bethel. Fischer came on with the bases loaded and two out and struck out Bethel’s Nick Kulseth to preserve the two-run victory.
• 3: Allison Ciero (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) went 3-for-5 to lead the Cardinal fastpitch team’s offense in last Monday’s 6-2, Game 1 win over Hamline. It was Ciero’s third three-hit game of the season and her seventh multiple-hit game this year.
• 3 x 3: The Saint Mary’s baseball team boasted a season-high three players with three hits in its 8-6, Game 2 win over Bethel last Wednesday — led by Daniel Marxen (Maple Grove, Minn.), who went 3-for-5 with four RBIs. Trevon VanEgtern (La Crosse, Wis.) and Cameron Weber (Holmen, Wis.) also had three hits in the SMU victory.
• 4 x 2: The Cardinal fastpitch softball team had four players — Riley Hall (Dallas Center, Iowa), Heather Nordlund (), Anna Kelly (Victoria, Minn.), and Sophie Cave (Maplewood, Minn.) — record two hits to account for eight of SMU’s 10 hits in last Saturday’s 6-5 Game 2 win over Macalester.
• 5, 6: Sarah Kraus (Onalaska, Wis.) tossed her team-leading fifth and sixth complete games last week. Kraus allowed two runs on six hits, while walking two and striking out four, in beating Hamline 6-2 last Monday. Five days later, Kraus allowed four runs — just two of which were earned on six hits and posted another four strikeouts — in a 4-3 loss to Macalester.
• 5-0: The SMU fastpitch softball team rallied from a 5-0, first-inning deficit to beat Macalester 6-5 and earn a split with the Scots in the teams’ conference doubleheader last Saturday. The Cardinals scored four runs in the third inning and added single runs in the sixth and seventh for the come-from-behind win.
• 9: Addison Hochevar (Lake Geneva, Wis.) struck out a career-high nine batters in the Cardinal baseball team’s 3-0, Game 2 loss to Macalester last Saturday. The nine Ks were one more than his previous career-best of eight, set in SMU’s 3-2 win over Wheaton earlier this year.
• 18: The Saint Mary’s track and field teams combined for 18 Top 5 performances at last Friday’s Rittgers Invitational in Cedar Rapids, Iowa — including first-place showings by Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.), Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.), and Frankie Bakalars (La Crosse, Wis.).
