LA CROSSE, Wis. — The field events took center stage for the Saint Mary's University track and field teams for the second straight day Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals compiled six Top 10 performances — led by a first-place finish from Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) in the javelin and fourth-place showings by Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) and
Sean Curran (Appleton, Wis.) — to lead the way for the Cardinals during the second day of the Phil Esten Challenge Saturday at UW-La Crosse.
Just a day after five Cardinals competed in the discus, the Cardinals were back at it Saturday, and Swanson was front-and-center, winning the javelin with a throw of 41.39 meters.
Gearin cleared 3.53 meters to finish tied for fourth in the pole vault, while Curran delivered a throw of 52.68 meters in placing fourth in the hammer.
Frankie Bakalars (La Crosse, Wis.) chipped in a sixth-place effort of 50.26 meters in the men's hammer throw, while Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.) delivered an eighth-place leap of 5.44 meters in the women's long jump, and Amanda Tuvey stopped the clock in 13:10.28 to finish ninth in the women's steeplechase.
The Cardinals are back in action next weekend, taking part in both the Drake Relays and the Gustavus Invitational.
