WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team's season came to an end on May 5, and on Monday, the post-season awards season officially got underway.
Riley Hall (Dallas Center, Iowa) — who turned more than a few heads in her first season in a Cardinal uniform — took her turn on the post-season merry-go-round on Monday, as the sophomore third-baseman was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region IX Third-Team.
In Saint Mary's 33 games, Hall compiled a team-best .423 batting average. She recorded 41 hits, including eight doubles and three triples, in 97 at-bats, while scoring 28 runs and finishing with 25 RBIs. Hall, who led the team with 14 multiple-hit games — and had at least one hit in 24 of SMU's 33 contests — also collected 55 total bases, posted a .567 slugging percentage and .513 on-base percentage, while stealing 16 bases in 18 attempts.
Hall — who was one of 12 players from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named to one of the three 12-player teams — was joined on the Third Team by Bethel's Kayla Hokanson and Allie Fauth, as well as Olivia Howe from St. Scholastica and Carleton's Brooke McKelvey. Bethel's Kayla Simacek and Lexi Debace were named to the First-Team, as was Saint Benedict's Elly Novak and Gabby Spencer, and Hamline's Jenna Rubbelke, while Bethel's Cortney Hokanson and St. Catherine's Alyssa Montero were Second-Team picks.
