• 2, 3: Brooklyn Paulson recorded her second and third double-double of the season last week – scoring 23 points and adding a career-high 15 rebounds in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 73-65 win over Macalester last Wednesday, and added a 14-point, 12-rebound effort against Concordia three days later.
• 3: The Cardinal men’s basketball team had three players — Jabari Sawyer (Chicago, Ill.), Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.), and Owen Ziegler (Mount Horeb, Wis.) all eclipse the 20-point mark in the SMU men’s basketball team’s 91-57 win over Augsburg last Monday. Sawyer led the way with 22 points, followed by 21 from both Anthony and Ziegler.
• 3: The Cardinal women’s hockey team’s three goals in last Saturday’s 5-3 loss to St. Catherine came from three different players — Taverie Sherner (Maple Grove, Minn.), Taryn Dornself (Somerset, Wis.), and Anne Carmean (Spring Lake Park, Minn.).
• 3 + 2: Sidney Polzin (Chippewa Falls, Wis.) scored three goals and added two assists in the Cardinal women’s hockey team’s 5-0 win over St. Catherine last Friday. The hat trick and five-point night were both the first of Polzin’s collegiate career.
• 4: The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team had its program-record eight-game winning snapped with a 75-72 loss to Macalester last Wednesday. SMU dropped both games against the Scots this season — by a combined four points, having also fallen 77-76 in the teams’ first meeting.
• 5: The SMU women’s hockey team’s five goals in last Friday’s 5-0 win over St. Catherine were the most scored in a home game since the Cardinals beat Saint Benedict 5-3 in the MIAC Playoffs on Feb. 26, 2022.
• 6 x 2: Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) and Emily Kern (Buffalo, Minn.) recorded sixth-place finishes to lead the way for the SMU women’s track and field at last Saturday’s season-opening UW-La Crosse Invitational. Kubes delivered a mark of 11.14 meters to place sixth in the shot put, while Kern stopped the clock in 11:09.69 to place sixth in the 3,000.
• 8: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) hauled in eight rebounds in the SMU men’s basketball team’s 85-81 win over Concordia last Saturday and has now delivered at least eight rebounds in nine straight games.
• 9 x 2: Aiden Gatz (Elburn, Ill.) and Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.) led the way for the SMU men’s track and field team at last Saturday’s season-opening UW-La Crosse Invitational. Gatz — the defending MIAC indoor pole vault champion — kicked off his season with a ninth-place showing Saturday, clearing 3.88 meters, while Bulwa stopped the clock in 51.66 to place ninth in the 400.
• 9: Nine of the Cardinal women’s basketball team’s last 10 contests have been decided by 10 points or less — including all three games last week. Those nine nail-biting contests include wins over Massachusetts Institute of Technology (60-53) and Macalester (73-65), and losses to UW-Stevens Point (81-79 OT), Penn State Behrend (71-65), Hamline (69-60), Saint Benedict (65-58), Bethel (60-59), Augsburg (50-44), and Concordia (69-61).
• 9-1: With their 85-81 win over Concordia last Saturday, the Cardinal men’s basketball team improved to 9-1 in their last 10 games — including a program-record eight-game winning streak, that was snapped in last Wednesday’s 75-72 loss at Macalester.
• 10: Ten of the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 17 games this season have been decided by 10 points or less — including eight of 11 MIAC contests. SMU has dropped nail-biting decisions to Concordia (82-77), Gustavus (74-71), Macalester (77-76 & 75-72), and St. Olaf (75-69), while beating No. 7 UW-La Crosse (73-66), North Park (83-82), Hamline (81-72), St. Scholastica (58-57), and Concordia (85-81).
• 10-10: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) went a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 85-81 win over Concordia last Saturday. The 10 made free throws marked the third time this season Anthony has netted at least 10 free throws in a game, is the second time in as many seasons in which SMU had a player go 10-for-10 from the line — Sawyer achieved the feat against Hamline on Jan. 26, 2022.
• 15: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) hauled in a career-high 15 rebounds in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 73-65 win over Macalester last Wednesday. Paulson’s 15 rebounds marked the highest single-game performance since Rachel Kedl collected 16 boards against Hamline on Jan. 11, 2020.
• 17: Izzy Goettelman (Winona, Minn.) led the team in scoring the Cardinal women’s basketball team’s 67-61 loss to Concordia last Saturday. Goettelman was one of three Cardinals to score in double figures, being joined by Brooklyn Paulson with 14 a 60-53 win over points and Ashley Streveler (Colby, Wis.) with 12.
• 22: Jabari Sawyer (Chicago, Ill.) scored a career-high 22 points in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 91-57 win over Augsburg last Monday. Sawyer is the fifth Cardinal to post a single-game career-high of 10 or more points this season.
• 22-22: Brooklyn Paulson drained 22 consecutive free throws over the SMU women’s basketball team’s last four games, before have the streak broken with a miss on her final FT attempt against Concordia last Saturday.
• 23: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) scored a team-high 23 points in the Cardinal women’s basketball team’s 73-65 win over Macalester last Wednesday. It was the fourth time this season the senior has eclipsed the 20-point mark.
• 25: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) poured in a game-high 25 points in the SMU men’s basketball team’s 75-72 loss to Macalester last Wednesday.
• 41: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) matched his career-high, scoring 41 points in the Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team’s 85-81 win over Concordia last Saturday. The 41-point efforts — the first coming against North Park on Dec. 30 — are the highest single-game individual performances since Will Wright netted 41 against MacMurray on Nov. 22, 2008.
• 54.7: The SMU men’s basketball team shot a season-high 54.7 percent from the field in last Monday’s 91-57 win over Augsburg — it was the highest single-game shooting percentage since going 28-for-56 (60.9 %) against North Park on Dec. 29, 2018.
• 64: Jabari Sawyer (Chicago, Ill. / 22), Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill. / 21), and Owen Ziegler (Mount Horeb, Wis. / 21) combined to score 64 of the SMU men’s basketball team’s 91 points in its win over Augsburg last Monday. The combined 64 points were more than the entire Auggies’ roster, which finished with 57 points.
• 195:56: Celeste Rimstad (Richfield, Minn.) had her scoreless minute streak ended at 195:56 minutes, giving up a first-period goal to St. Catherine’s Ellie Skaja at 7:42 of the first period in the SMU women’s hockey team’s 5-3 loss to the Wildcats last Saturday. It was the first goal the SMU freshman has allowed since a late, third-period goal by Hamline on Nov. 12.
