• 1: The Cardinal women’s tennis team dominated the three doubles matches in their 9-0, season-opening win over Martin Luther last Saturday, dropping just one game combined in the three matches. Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.) and Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) breezed to an 8-0 win at No. 1, as did Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.) and Ella Boomgaarden (St. Peter, Minn.) at No. 3, while Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.)/Ashley Renwick (Farmington, Minn.) chipped in an 8-1 victory at No. 2.
• 1 + 1: Kas Kingston (Black Diamond, Alberta) had a goal and an assist — including a helper the overtime game-winner — in the SMU women’s hockey team’s 2-1 win over Bethel last Saturday. Kingston has now post three multiple-point games this season.
• 1 x 2: The Saint Mary’s women’s track and field team collected a pair of first-place finishes at last Saturday’s St. Olaf Invitational — Samantha Kubes uncorked a toss of 14.21 meters to win the weight throw and Emily Kern (Buffalo, Minn.) clocked a time of 18:55.48 in winning the 5,000.
• 2: The Saint Mary’s men’s and women’s hockey teams both picked up overtime wins last Saturday against Bethel — the men getting a goal from Callahan Nauss (Maple Plain, Minn.) at 2:06 of the extra period to beat BU 3-2, while Jenna Kurkowski (North Branch, Minn.) scored 2:25 into OT in a 2-1 SMU victory.
• 2: Ben Kritsberg (Rosemount, Minn.), Antonio Cisewski (Custer, Wis.), Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.), and Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.) crossed the finish line in 1:35.04 to place second in the 4x200 to lead the way for the SMU men’s track and field team at last Saturday’s St. Olaf Invitational.
• 4: The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team put a season-high four players in double figures in last Wednesday’s 75-67 loss at St. Catherine. Izzy Goettelman (Winona, Minn.) and Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) each finished with 13 points, followed by Grace Schaffer (Farmington, Minn.) with 11 and Alyssa Coleman (Matteson, Ill.) with 10.
• 4: Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team’s 2-1 win over Bethel last Saturday was its fourth overtime game of the season. Along with their 2-1 win over Bethel, the Cardinals also own a 2-1 victory against UW-Stevens Point, while falling to Lake Forest 3-2 and tying St. Olaf. … Saint Mary’s has now played four overtime games in back-to-back seasons.
• 6: The SMU men’s tennis team posted six straight-set singles wins in its 9-0 win over Martin Luther last Saturday.
E.J. Hietala (Duluth, Minn.) dominated his No. 2 singles match, posting back-to-back 6-0 wins, while Tucker Stene (Fridley, Minn.) and Brendon Raabolle (Andover, Minn.) added 6-2, 6-2 victories. Matt Besek (Winona, Minn.) and Caden Rodning (Mason City, Iowa) also posted straight-set victories at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively while Evan Huemoeller (Owatonna, Minn.) — playing his first match at No. 1 — held on for a 7-5, 7-6 (4) triumph.
• 9: Breyton Buysman (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) hauled in a career-high nine rebounds in the SMU men’s basketball team’s 65-63 loss to Carleton last Saturday. Buysman missed out on his first career-double-double by one board, having added 18 points to his nine boards against the Knights.
• 11: Grace Schaffer’s 11 points in the SMU women’s basketball team’s 75-67 loss to St. Catherine were a season-high. She became the sixth Cardinal to post a single-game career-high of 10 or more points this season.
• 15-15: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) went 3-for-3 from the free throw line in the SMU men’s basketball team’s two-point loss to league-leading Carleton last Saturday, and has now made his last 15 straight free throws, dating back to the second half against Macalester on Jan. 18.
• 17: The SMU women’s tennis team ran its winning streak to 17 against Martin Luther last Saturday with a 9-0 victory over the Knights.
• 19: Brooklyn Paulson (Holmen, Wis.) tossed in a team-high 19 points in the Cardinal women’s basketball team’s 66-57 loss to Carleton. It was the 11th time this season the senior has led or shared the team lead in scoring.
• 20-0: The Saint Mary’s men’s tennis team kicked off its 2023 season with a 9-0 win over Martin Luther last Saturday. The win was the 20th in a row against the Knights for the Cardinals, who have never lost to MLC.
• 23: Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-high 23 points in the Cardinal men’s basketball team’s 65-63 loss to Carleton last Saturday. The 23-point effort marked the 13th time this season the senior has scored 20 or more points in a game.
• 23: The Saint Mary’s men’s and women’s track and field teams combined for 23 Top 10 finishes at last Saturday’s St. Olaf Invitational.
