WINONA, Minn. — And the streak continues.
Â
The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team extended its winning streak over Martin Luther to 17 straight, as the Cardinals rolled to a 9-0, season-opening win over the Knights in a nonconference match at the Winona Tennis Center.
Â
"Give Martin Luther a lot of credit, they are much-improved over last year," said Saint Mary's women's tennis coach
Jeff Halberg. "I thought we played a tremendous match today — a great start to the season."
Â
The Cardinals dominated the three doubles matches, dropping just one game.
Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.) and
Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) breezed to an 8-0 win at No. 1 and
Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.)/
Ella Boomgaarden (St. Peter, Minn.) matched that performance at No. 3, while
Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.)/
Ashley Renwick (Farmington, Minn.) chipped in an 8-1 victory at No. 2.
Â
It was more of the same in singles, as Becker, Dossser, Renwick, Boomgaarden, and Henderson delivered straight-set victories, while Buerman had to rally from a set down to post a 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 victory at No. 4.
Â
The Cardinals (1-0 overall) are now off until Feb. 11, when they return to the Winona Tennis Center for a 1:30 p.m. nonconference match against the University of Dubuque.
