ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team headed into its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup against Saint Mary's having posted eight shutouts this season — resulting in seven wins and one tie.
Â
And the Cardinals posted shutout No. 9 against the Scots.
Â
Unfortunately, this shutout would not translate into win No. 8, but rather scoreless tie No. 2, as the Cardinals and Scots battled to a 0-0 draw at Macalester Stadium Wednesday.
Â
Saint Mary's, which has now posted two 0-0 ties in the same season for the first time since the 2021 campaign — having also battled UW-Stevens Point to a scoreless stalemate on Oct. 1 — has now had 13 of its 16 games this season decided by one goal or less.
Â
The Cardinals — who have now settled for a tie in each of their last two games — held a 12-9 advantage in shots attempted, including 6-2 in shots on goal, but were unable to get one past Macalester goalkeeper Abigail Heuga, who stopped all six SMU shots – including four in the second half. SMU goalkeeper
Anna Peckosh (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), meanwhile, stopped both Scots' she faced en route to her second shutout of the season.
Â
The Cardinals (2-5-2 MIAC, 7-6-3 overall) are back in action — and back on the road — on Saturday, as they head to Northfield, Minn., for a 3:30 p.m. conference showdown against league-leading Carleton.
