• FOR THE RECORD: Saint Mary’s closed out its first year under head coach John Tschida with a 16-17 overall record, including a 9-11 showing in conference play.
• POST-SEASON HONORS: Riley Hall (Dallas Center, Iowa), Sophie Cave (Maplewood, Minn.), and Allison Ciero (Glyn Ellyn, Ill.) were all named First-Team All-MIAC a year ago, while Hall also garnered NFCA All-Region IX Third-Team honors in 2022.
• AT THE PLATE: As a team, the Cardinals hit .302 through 33 games last season, and boasted six regulars who hit .300 or better this season — led by Hall (.423) and Heather Nordlund (Byron, Minn. / .370). Ciero (.366), Cave (.343), Mackenzie Carey (Prescott, Wis. / .325), and Cassie Sutor (Chicago, Ill. / .307) also hitting above 3.00 this season.
• RUNNING WILD: The Cardinals scored 183 runs in 33 games a year ago, led by Ciero, who scored 31 times. Hall was second with 28 runs scored, five more than Cave. … Hall, Ciero, Kulaga, and Cave all scored three times in a game in 2022 — Hall against St. Catherine on April 2, Ciero vs. Concordia the following afternoon, Kulaga against St. Scholastica on April 21, and Cave against Gustavus on April 24.
• HIT PARADE: Saint Mary’s boasted nine players who collected 10 or more hits in 2022, including five — Hall (41), Ciero (41), Cave (36), Carey (27), Sutor (22), and Erin Sullivan (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. / 23) — who owned at least 20 hits. … Saint Mary’s amassed 68 multiple-hit games, led by Hall with 14, Ciero with 12, and Cave with 11. … Sutor owned the team’s top single-game performance, collecting a career-high four hits against Rosemount on March 5. … Ciero led the team with four, three-hit games, one more than Hall and two up on Cave and Carey.
• EXTRA, EXTRA: The Cardinals recorded 270 hits in 2022, including 76 for extra bases —
58 doubles, 13 triples and five home runs. Cave was the team-leader with 11 doubles, three more than Hall and Ciero and four in front of Sullivan. Ciero led the team with four triples, with Hall sitting second with three.
• GOING DEEP: Cave, Sullivan, Sarah Kraus (Onalaska, Wis.), and Ally Wagner (Altoona, Wis.) accounted for Saint Mary’s five home runs last season — with Cave hitting her team-leading second of the season against St. Scholastica on April 21. Wagner belted her first collegiate HR in the second game of SMU’s doubleheader against St. Catherine on April 2, while Cave and Kraus launched their first home runs in a Cardinal uniform during SMU’s 11-game spring trip. Kraus cracked a two-run shot against Rosemont on March 3, and Cave launched a three-run bomb against Finlandia on March 4.
• DRIVING ‘EM IN: Hall delivered a team-best 25 RBIs, followed by Cave with 22 and Ciero with 17. … Saint Mary’s posted 34 multiple-RBI performances this season, led by Cave with six, and Hall and Sullivan with five. … Carey drove in a game- and career-high four runs in SMU’s season-opening win over Neumann on Feb. 26, while Cave matched that with her first collegiate four-RBI game against St. Scholastica on April 21.
• TOUGH TO STOP: Ciero closed out the season having hit safely in each of the Cardinals’ last nine games, while Carey ended the year on an eight-game hit streak. … Hall had her career-high nine-game hitting streak snapped in SMU’s 9-1 Game 2 loss to St. Catherine on April 2.
• CAN’T CATCH ME: Saint Mary’s stole 70 bases in 2022, led by Ciero with 18 and Hall with 16. … SMU — which swiped just 26 bases in 36 games in 2021 — got at least one stolen base from 14 different players. … SMU’s 70 stolen bases rank sixth in program history.
• OUCH: Hall was hit by a pitch 12 times, tied for 11th-most in NCAA Division III. She was hit by three pitches against Rosemont on March 3, tied for the highest single-game total in NCAA Division in 2022.
• IN THE CIRCLE: Sarah Kraus (Onalaska, Wis.), Amelia Spilde (Brooklyn, Wis.), and Ally Wagner (Altoona, Wis.) were the workhorses in the pitcher’s circle, with Kraus logging a team-high 125 1/3 innings, followed by Spilde with 44 1/3 IP and Wagner with 27.0 IP. … Kraus boasted a 3.13 ERA and 8-12 record in 25 appearances. She tossed 10 complete games — including a career-high nine innings in a 3-2 loss to Carleton on April 9 — and teamed with Spilde for the team’s lone shutout. … Spilde finished the year 4-2 with a 4.42 ERA in 15 appearances, including six starts, while Wagner went 3-0 with a 6.22 ERA in 12 outings.
• PITCHING FIRSTS: Spilde, Kraus, and Hall all picked up their first collegiate pitching wins during SMU’s 2022 spring trip. Spilde tossed three innings of two-hit, shutout ball in SMU’s 14-0 win over Neumann on Feb. 26, while Kraus allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits in a complete-game 10-4 win over Cabrini the following day. Hall allowed two runs on three hits in 3 2/3 innings of relief against Finlandia on March 4. … Wagner, meanwhile, collected her first collegiate save in SMU’s 10-7, Game 1 win over St. Catherine on April 2, tossing a scoreless seventh. Kraus, meanwhile, struck out three of the five batters she faced in collecting her first collegiate save in SMU 9-5 Game 2 win over Concordia on April 3.
• FANNING THE FLAMES: Cardinal pitchers combined to strike out 140 batters in 33 games, led by Kraus with 89, Spilde with 22, and Wagner with 16. … Kraus struck out a single-game career-high nine batters in SMU’s 6-2 win over Concordia in Game 1 on April 3.
• SCORING IN BUNCHES: The Cardinals’ 14-10 loss to St. Scholastica in Game 1 on April 21 marked the first time since the 2012 season — when SMU fell to Cornell 13-10 — that SMU had scored 10 or more runs in a loss. … The 24 combined runs between the Saints and Cardinals on April 21 were the most since Saint Mary’s and Macalester combined for 33 runs in an 18-15 SMU win on April 22, 2015.
• BY THE NUMBERS: The Cardinals scored six or more runs in 15 of their 16 wins — including eight wins when scoring 10 or more times. On the flip side, SMU was held to five runs or less in 14 of its 17 losses. … SMU owned a 15-2 record when scoring at least six runs. … Saint Mary’s scored first 13 times — going 9-4 — while sporting a 7-13 mark when its opponent plates the game’s first run. … Saint Mary’s scored four or more runs in an inning 13 times — including a six times in the second inning of its 14-6 loss to Saint Benedict on May 1 and a season-high seven-run sixth inning in its 12-3 win over Rosemont on March 3. … SMU was a perfect 13-0 when leading after six innings, while going 1-10 when trailing heading into the seventh inning.

• FOR THE RECORD: The Polars head into this weekend’s games on the heels of an 8-20 season a year ago, including a 6-14 mark in UMAC play.
• AT THE PLATE: Crown boasted a pair of players who hit above .400 — Maria Lillenthal (.482) and Liz Kemp (.457) — while Kiara Hurt (.389), Abbey Underdahl (.352), and Ally Adams (.303) all finished the year with batting averages above .300.
• RUNNING WILD: The Polars closed out 2022 with 155 runs scored, including four players with 20 or more runs scored. Kemp led the way for Crown, crossing the plate 33 times, followed by Underdahl (25), Adams (22), and Lillenthal (21). …Kemp, Underdahl, Hurt, and Lillenthal all scored a season-high three runs in a game last season.
• HIT PARADE: Kemp and Lillenthal banged out 42 and 40 hits, respectively, with Hurt chipping in 35 hits, three more than Underdahl. … Adams posted a season-high five hits against Martin Luther on April 27.
• EXTRA, EXTRA: Crown belted 75 extra-base hits a year ago, including 45 doubles, 10 triples, and nine home runs. … Lillenthal and Kemp collected 17 and 16 doubles, respectively, with Hurt leading the way with six of the Polars’ 10 triples, and added three of Crown’s nine home runs. … Kemp laced three doubles in both games of the Polars’ doubleheader against Finlandia on March 26.
• GOING DEEP: Along with Hurt’s team-leading three home runs, Kemp, Lillenthal, and Thiery Zachary all went yard twice. … Both of Kemp’s home runs last season came against Northland on April 22.
• DRIVING ‘EM IN: Kemp finished the year with 31 RBIs, leading six Polars who delivered at least 10 RBIs last season. Lillenthal was four back of Kemp with 27, followed by Hurt (23), Underdahl (16), Mailya Martinez (12), and Zachary.
• CAN’T CATCH ME: Crown finished the 2022 season with 43 stolen bases on 49 attempts, led by Underdahl and Adams with 11. Underdahl closed out the season 11-for-11, while Adams was 11-for-12.
• MULTIPLIER: Lillenthal delivered a team-high 15 multiple-hit games in 2022, followed by Kemp with 13 and Hurt with 11. … Hurt and Kemp each posted nine multiple-RBI games, with Kemp boasting a season-high five-RBI game against Northland on April 22.
• IN THE CIRCLE: Lindsay Glover led a quartet of Polar pitchers last season, posting a 3-3 record and 5.44 ERA in 16 appearances (45.0 IP), while Underdahl went 4-6 with a 13.18 ERA in 14 appearances (51.0 IP) and Abbie Carroll added a 1-9 record and 8.20 ERA in 12 appearances (64.0 IP). Ashley Earick made four appearances (5.1 IP), going 0-2 with a 28.88 ERA. … Carroll collected seven of the team’s 12 complete games and Glover tossed the team’s lone shutout. … Carroll struck out a team-leading 25 batters, five more than Underdahl. … Underdahl struck out a single-game season-high six batters against North Central on April 9.

• FOR THE RECORD: The Prairie Wolves enter the 2023 season having gone 23-16 overall a year ago, including an 8-8 mark in American Rivers Conference play.
• RECORD-SETTING YEAR: Nebraska Wesleyan reached the American Rivers Conference Tournament title game a year ago, falling to Wartburg 5-4. … Despite the A-R-C Tournament title game loss, the Prairie Wolves received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, going 1-2. NE Wesleyan opened with a 4-0 win over host Saint Benedict, before falling to No. 25 Wartburg 2-0 in 14 innings and to Saint Benedict 8-0.
• LEADING THE CHARGE: Since taking over the program in 2016, head coach Mary Yori has won at least 20 games four times — including three of the last five seasons — qualified for the conference tournament four times, made back-to-back appearances in the conference tournament title game in 2021 and 2022, and earned the program’s first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
• AT THE PLATE: Hanna Roth and Val Gerlach led the way for the Prairie Wolves at the plate a year ago, hitting .370 and .331, respectively. The pair were just two of four players to start all 39 games a year ago.
• RUNNING WILD: Nebraska Wesleyan plated 177 runs in 2022, and boasted eight players who scored at least 10 runs. Roth (27), Paige Davison (25), and Emma Alfieri (21) each delivered 20 or more runs scored, while Taylor Styskal (19), Bre Schneidewind (18), Sydney Nickerson (16), and Gerlach (15) also reached double digits in runs scored a year ago.
• HIT PARADE: Roth banged out a team-leading 47 hits a year ago, followed closely by Gerlach with 39. Alfieri and Davison each chipped in 33 hits, followed by Schneidewind with 32, and Styskal with 31. … Roth collected 14 multiple-hit games last season, including three, three-hit performances. … Gerlach (12), Alfieri (10), and Styskal (10) also reached double-digits in multiple-hit games.
• EXTRA, EXTRA: The Prairie Wolves closed out the year with 92 extra-base hits — including 82 doubles, four triples, and 16 home runs. Roth led the team with 12 doubles, two more than Alfieri, while the pair each had one of the team’s four triples.
• GOING DEEP: Styskal launched a team-leading four home runs last season, with Roth collecting three round-trippers. Alfieri, Gerlach, and Schneidewind all chipped in two HRs, and Addie Duranski, Kailey Meyer, and Emily Swoboda accounted for the other three.
• DRIVING ‘EM IN: Roth and Gerlach shared the team lead in RBIs with 26 each, four more than both Alfieri and Meyer. Styskal (18), Schneidewind (14), and Davison (14) also surpassed the 10-RBI mark a year ago. … Meyer led the Prairie Wolves with seven multiple-RBI games, one more than Roth, Alfieri, and Gerlach. … Nebraska Wesleyan had four different players record a season-high four-RBI game.

• FOR THE RECORD: North Central heads into its season-opening games against Saint Mary’s and Macalester on Sunday on the heels of a 12-26 season a year ago — a mark that included a 3-16 showing in UMAC action.
• OUT OF THEIR LEAGUE: Sunday’s game against Saint Mary’s and Macalester are two of five contests this season against teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Rams will play two games against both Macalester and Augsburg, and one vs. Saint Mary’s. North Central faced three MIAC foes a year ago, going 0-4. The Rams lost to Concordia (8-1) and Saint Mary’s (10-2) during last year’s spring trip, while dropping both games of a nonconference doubleheader against Augsburg (3-0, 9-6).
• AT THE PLATE: North Central closed out 2022 boasting four players who finished the year hitting above .300, led by Emma Cochran’s team-high .390 batting average. Delaney Riddle (.372), Aurora Prettyman (.337) and Selma Carrasco (.330) also closed out the year with batting averages above.300.
• RUNNING WILD: Kali Kahalekomo scored a team-leading 32 runs in 2022. She was one of six players with 20 or more runs scored, and one of 10 to reach double-digits in runs scored. … Isabela Gallardo (26) was second to Kahalekomo, followed by Prettyman (24), Cochran (21), Carrasco (20), and Brooke McGlinchey (20). … Carrasco and Kahalekomo both posted four-run games in 2022.
• HIT PARADE: Cochran banged out a team-high 41 hits, followed by Hosanna Gattle with 36, Riddle with 35, and Carrasco with 31. … Cochran finished 2022 with 14 multiple-hit games, one more than Gattle and four up on Carrasco. … Gattle enters the 2023 season having hit safely in each of her last eight games last season.
• EXTRA, EXTRA: The Rams recorded 80 extra-base hits a year ago, including 63 doubles, 10 triples, and seven home runs. … Riddle led the way with 12 doubles, four more than both Gattle and Gallardo, while Riddle and Gallardo shared the team lead with four triples each. … Riddle belted a single-game season-high three doubles against Maranatha Baptist on April 21.
• GOING DEEP: North Central’s seven homes runs last season came from six different players. McGlinchey finished with a pair of HRs, with Riddle, Gallardo, Carrasco, Kahalekomo, and Prettyman each launching one round-tripper.
• DRIVING ‘EM IN: Gallardo amassed a team-best 29 RBIs. • BY THE NUMBERS: The Rams scored a season-high 19 runs in routing Maranatha Baptist 19-3 on March 19, and recorded a season-best 17 RBIs, seven doubles, and 17 walks in that same contest. … North Central banged out a season-high 18 hits against Martin Luther on April 22. … North Central scored 10 or more runs in a game nine times a year ago. • FOR THE RECORD: The Vikings head into their season-opening weekend’s games coming off a 29-16 season a year ago, including a 16-5 mark in UMAC action.
• MEMORABLE RUN: The Vikings qualified for the NCAA Division III national tournament a year ago, winning the UMAC automatic berth with a perfect 3-0 run through the conference tournament. BLC beat Northwestern (2-1), UM0-Morris (11-2), and UW-Superior to win its second UMAC tournament title, and first since 2013. … The Vikings came up empty in their two NCAA tournament games, falling to Bethel (5-1) and Buena Vista (8-0).
• AT THE PLATE: Bethany Lutheran closed out 2022 with seven players hitting above .300, including two — Kaija Mork (.426) and Zoe Kinakin (.408) — who batted above .400, while starting all 45 games. … Katelyn Hallbach (.398), Eden Ambrose (.390), Kaitlyn Douchette (.333), Olivia Fritz (.312), and Ana Christofferson (.308) also closed out last season with batting averages above .300.
• RUNNING WILD: BLC scored 287 runs a year ago, and had 20 of its 21 players cross the plate at least once. … Kinakin led the Vikings’ run parade, scoring 42 times, followed closing by Halbach (39) and Mork (37). Ambrose (24), Elizabeth Cizek (22), and Christofferson (21) also scored more than 20 runs a year ago.
• HIT PARADE: Mork and Kinakin each banged out 60 hits to lead the Vikings in 2022 and were two of seven players with 20+ hits — being joined by Ambrose (53), Halbach )45), Christofferson (33), and Fritz (24). … Mork closed out the year with 20 multiple-hit games, three more than Kinakin, while Ambrose, Douchette, and Halbach each posted a single-game, season-high four-hit effort.

• CAN’T CATCH ME: Bethany Lutheran stole 118 bases on 133 attempts last season and finished the year with six players swiping 10 or more bases. Halbach led the way for the Vikings with 26 steals on 27 attempts, with Cizek (17), Ambrose (16), Christofferson (14), Kinakin (10), and Mork (10) also reaching double digits in stolen bases.
• IN THE CIRCLE: Kayla Senne was the workhorse in the pitcher’s circle for the Vikings, appearing in 35 of the team’s 45 games. She compiled a 20-12 record and 2.73 ERA in 169 innings, while tossing 15 complete games — including one shutout — and earning the Vikings’ lone save. … Alyssa Kosta (7-3, 2.92, 84 IP), Lizze Oothoudt (0-0, 5.25 ERA, 2 2/3 IP), and Doucette (2-1, 6.48 ERA, 27 IP) also pitched for BLC last season. … Senne accounted for 184 of the staff’s 245 strikeouts.
