WINONA, Minn. — If there's one thing Raheem Anthony (Chicago, Ill.) has proven during his senior season, it's that no matter how hard teams try, they can't silence the Saint Mary's University senior.

Hamline, St. Olaf, and St. Scholastica learned that the hard way last week.

Anthony torched the conference trio for 77 points (25.7 ppg) and 27 rebounds (9.0 rpg) in leading the SMU men's basketball team to a pair of wins — and a last-second loss — in its three contests last week.

And Monday, Anthony was recognized for his performance, being named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced.

Anthony made an early statement on his offensive prowess last Monday, pouring in 33 points on 12 of 32 shooting from the field, with one 3-pointer, and an 8-for-10 showing from the free throw line against Hamline last Monday. Anthony knocked down a 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining in overtime to tie the game at 85-85, only to have the Pipers hit a game-winning trey at the buzzer to deal SMU an 88-85 setback.

Unfazed, Anthony was back at it two days later, scoring a team-high 26 points, and missing out on a second straight double-double by one rebound. The senior knocked down a four-point play with four seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Cardinals to a thrilling, come-from-behind 66-65 win over St. Olaf.

And then there was Saturday … where Anthony closed out the week with a team-high 19 points and added nine boards in leading SMU to a 57-54 victory over the Saints.

For the week, Anthony shot 50.0 percent from the field (29-for-58), with five 3-pointers, and a 14 of 17 effort from the free throw line. He also added nine assists and three steals.

Anthony heads into this week's games against Augsburg and Saint John's leading the team and conference — and sitting third in the country — with a 24.6 ppg scoring average, while also delivering 194 rebounds (9.2 rpg), 97 assists, six blocks and 31 steals, all while averaging 35.4 minutes-per-game.
