SAINT MARY’S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their Saturday matchups against Hamline and UW-River Falls sitting at 5-7 overall, including dropping their first five MIAC matches.
• LAST TIME OUT: Injuries plagued the Cardinals in their two conference matches last weekend, falling to Concordia 5-4 with a retirement in the decisive singles match on Saturday at the Winona Tennis Center, before playing without three starters in falling to Saint Benedict 8-1 the following day at Sta-Fit in Sartell, Minn.
• WINNING BIG: Eight of SMU’s last 16 wins have been 9-0 sweeps — including three of SMU’s five victories this season — while four other victories over the last two seasons have been by 8-1 counts.
• IN THE FALL: Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.), Peyton Buerman (Shawano, Wis.), and Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) collected singles wins at the Gustavus Fall Invitational in late September, while Dosser/Ashley Renwick (Farmington, Minn.) and Henderson/Natalie Peterson (St. Cloud, Minn.) earned doubles victories.
• LEADING THE CHARGE: Emily Henderson (Jordan, Minn.) enters Saturday’s matches against Hamline and UW-River Falls leading the Cardinals in dual-match singles wins with seven, one more than Renwick and Becker, and two up on Buerman and Ella Boomgaarden (St. Peter, Minn.). … Renwick put together a season-high six-match winning streak a year ago — the longest among Cardinal players — while Henderson and Becker each boasted five-match win streaks.
• WIN NO. 1: Kathryn Stiegel (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) picked up her first collegiate singles victory last Saturday against Bethany Lutheran, posting a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6.
• MIXING THINGS UP: The Cardinals have used at least two different players at all six singles positions this season. Two different SMU players have competed at No. 1, singles, while three have competed from the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, and four have line up in the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 positions.
• DOUBLING UP: The doubles teams of Dosser/Henderson — SMU’s only doubles combination to play all 12 matches together — has teamed up to record a team-leading six doubles wins, one more than Becker/Renwick. … Becker has played all 12 matches at No. 2 doubles, going 5-6 with Renwick and 1-0 with Boomgaarden. … As a team, the Cardinals are 17-19 in doubles play — going 6-6 at No. 1 and No. 2, and 5-7 at No. 3.
• HOME SWEET HOME: With their 9-0 win over Bethany Lutheran on Feb. 25, the Cardinals are 9-6 in their last 15 home matches — including 3-2 this season. … SMU has picked up 13 of its last 19 wins at the Winona TC.
• EYEING NO. 20: Saint Mary’s heads into its nonconference match against UW-River Falls Saturday riding a 19-match winning streak against the Falcons. The Cardinals have never lost to the Falcons in their 19-match history.
• STREAKING ALONG: With their 9-0 win over Martin Luther on Jan. 28, the Cardinals ran their winning streak over the Knights to 17. SMU is 18-1 overall against MLC — and have won the last nine meetings between the two teams by 9-0 counts. … Saint Mary’s has dropped just one game in its six doubles matches against the Knights over the last two years.
• DOMINATION: With their Feb. 25 win over Bethany Lutheran, the Cardinals improved to 10-0 all-time against the Vikings — with all 10 matches ending in 9-0 sweeps.
• TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS: Thanks to their spring-trip victories over Adrian and Albion, the Cardinals improved to 78-21 against nonconference opponents since 2012.
• NEW THIS YEAR: The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Operating Committee has instituted a mandatory, no-ad scoring pilot for all of D-III tennis for the 2022-23 season. No-ad tennis matches are played as follows: If each player/team has won three points, the score is “Deuce” and a deciding point shall be played. The receiver(s) shall choose whether to receive the service from the right half or the left half of the court. In doubles, the players of the receiving team cannot change positions to receive this deciding point. The player/team who wins the deciding point wins the game.

• LAST TIME OUT: Hamline got a win from No. 3 doubles Christine Muller/Sydney Hubbard and a three-set win from Lynn Nguyen at No. 3 singles, but it was not enough, as Concordia kept the Pipers winless in conference play with a 7-2 win last Sunday in Rogers, Minn.
• LIMPING IN: Hamline headed into the weekend in the midst of a three-match losing streak, having not won since having topped Curry 7-2 on March 14.
