ST. LOUIS, Mo. — After a successful start to the season Friday, the Saint Mary's University hammer throwers and distance runners passed the baton to the rest of the Cardinal track and field teams on Saturday.

And it was a picture-perfect exchange.

Aiden Gatz (Elburn, Ill.) posted a fourth-place finish in the pole vault to lead the way for the Cardinal men, and Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) tallied a seventh in the shot put to fuel the SMU women.

Gatz cleared 4.05 meters to place fourth in the pole vault, while Kubes uncorked a throw of 11.29 meters for her seventh-place showing in the shot put.

The Cardinal men had five members compete in the 200, with
Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.) leading the charge with a seventh-place time of 22.28.
Garrett Jackson (West Linn, Ore.) delivered a time of 22.79, followed by
Brady Johnson (Elburn, Ill. / 22.83),
Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.), and
Antonio Cisewski (Custer, Wis. / 23.55).

Casen Fritz (Minnesota City, Minn.) posted a pair of Top 10 performances for the SMU men, placing seventh in the shot put (10.64m) and eighth in the discus (32.46m), while Cisewski added a 10th-place showing in the long jump (6.03m), while Johnson was fifth in the triple jump (12.09m), and Cade Koss (Apple Valley, Minn.) stopped the clock in 2:38.30 in the 800.

Saint Mary's was well represented in the women's 200, with Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.) leading the charge with an 11th-place time of 27.33, followed by Samantha Munson (Plain City, Utah, 28.08), Abrianna Utgaard (28.33), Madisyn Heller (Mason City, Iowa / 31.17), and Danielle Ilunga (Pretoria, South Africa / 32.31). Gearin also added a third-place mark of 3.30 meters in the pole vault.

In the women's 1,500, Caeli McMahon (Holmen, Wis.) stopped the clock in 5:30.67 and Megan Frosch (Oconomowoc, Wis.) added a time of 5:41.29, and Abbi Meyer (Sauk Centre, Minn.) delivered a tie of 2:38.30 in the 800.

The Cardinal women throwers also had a busy afternoon. Along with her seventh in the shot put, Kubes delivered a throw of 31.64 meters in the discus. Anna Becker (Cannon Falls, Minn.) chipped in a 23.13m in the discus and an 8.34m in the shot, while Sydney Jackman (Litchfield, Minn.) posted a throw of 26.55m in the discus and an 11.05m mark in the shot, and Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) chipped in a 9.76m throw in the shot put.

The Cardinals are back in action next Friday, when they travel to Dubuque, Iowa, to take part in the University of Dubuque Good Friday Invitational.
