• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their three-match nonconference weekend against Lawrence, Ripon, and St. Norbert sitting at 1-3 overall, while sporting an 0-1 mark in conference play.
• LAST ACTION: Saint Mary’s dropped a pair of nonconference matches to Loras and Northwestern last weekend at the Winona Tennis Center— with both contests decided by 6-3 counts.
• HOME SWEET HOME: After opening the season with four straight home contests, the Cardinals will hit the road for four straight matches — three in Green Bay, Wis., this weekend, and another in Owatonna against Crown on Feb. 16, before returning home for matches against Gustavus (Feb. 17) and Carleton (Feb. 18). … SMU is 1-3 on its home courts this season, after going 5-3 at home and 4-8 on the road a year ago.
• IN THE FALL: Evan Huemoeller (Owatonna, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals at the 2023 ITA Regional/Midwest Open last September, collecting a pair of singles wins en route to reaching the ITA consolation semifinals. … Philip Apel (North Oaks, Minn.), Michael Johnson (Hastings, Minn.), Brendon Raabolle (Andover, Minn.), and Zak Farley (Sartell, Minn.) all picked up one singles victory at the Midwest Open.
• SINGLED OUT: Matt Besek (Winona, Minn.) and Tucker Stene (Fridley, Minn.) share the team lead with three singles wins through four matches — with both riding two-match winning streaks heading into this weekend’s matches — while Philip Apel (North Oaks, Minn.) owns a pair of singles wins. … Stene closed out 2023 with a team-leading 12 singles wins.
• GOING THE DISTANCE: Five of the Cardinals’ 12 singles matches in last weekend’s 6-3 losses to Loras and Northwestern were extended to a third-set super-breaker, with SMU going 2-3 in those five contests. Caden Rodning (Mason City, Iowa) played two of those five three-setters, with Evan Huemoeller (Owatonna, Minn.), Tucker Stene (Fridley, Minn.), and Matt Besek played the others. … Saint Mary’s had 25 singles contests extended to a third set in 2023 — including three each in matches against Saint John’s, Northwestern (Minn.) and St. Norbert. … SMU was 14-11 in its three-set matches last season and with its 2-3 mark this year, are now 38-37 in three-setters over the last three seasons.
• DOUBLING UP: Huemoeller and Raabolle are the only doubles combination to play all four matches together, going 2-2 at No. 1. Besek/Rodning and Apel/Stene have each gone 1-2 as a pair, while Rodning/Trevor Smiley (Minnetonka, Minn.) are 0-1 together. … Raabolle led the team in doubles wins with nine last season, going 9-9 last season — including 6-5 partnered with Rodning. … SMU used 17 different doubles combinations a year ago — including two at No. 1, seven at No. 2, and eight at No. 3.
• TOTAL DOMINATION: With their 9-0 win over Martin Luther in their season opener on Jan. 27, the Cardinals pushed their winning streak to 21 straight against the Knights. SMU has never lost to Martin Luther in program history.
• OUT OF THEIR LEAGUE: With their 1-2 start in nonconference play this season, the Cardinals are now 79-39 in non-MIAC matches since 2012.

• FOR THE RECORD: The Vikings head into their Friday match against Saint Mary’s still searching for their first win of the season, sitting at 0-3 overall.
• LAST TIME OUT: Lawrence proved to be no match for UW-La Crosse, Illinois College, and Judson, as the Vikings dropped three straight 9-0 decisions last weekend.
• HOME SWEET HOME: Lawrence collected all four of its wins a year ago on its home courts. The Vikings finished 2023 4-5 at home, while going 0-9 on the road.
• SINGLED OUT: The Vikings have lost all 18 singles matches in straight sets this season. … Andrew Larson picked up a team-leading nine singles wins last season, with Dylan Delgado and Hikaru Takemura each chipping in six.

• LAST TIME OUT: Ripon managed to win just match in its two nonconference contests last weekend, falling to UW-La Crosse 9-0 last Saturday, before dropping an 8-1 decision to Concordia (Wis.) the following day.
• ROAD WARRIORS: This weekend’s matches against Hamline, Saint Mary’s, and St. Norbert are the fifth, sixth, and seventh consecutive road contests for the Red Hawks, who do not play at home until hosting Wisconsin Lutheran and Wartburg next Saturday. … Ripon picked up four of its six wins a year ago on its home courts, finishing 4-5 at home, while going 2-8 on the road.

• LAST TIME OUT: St. Norbert dropped three heartbreaking decisions in doubles play against UW-La Crosse — falling 8-7, 8-6, and 8-5 — and never recovered in falling to the Eagles 9-0 in a nonconference match in De Pere, Wis.
