ST. PAUL, Minn. — The event is called the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational, but it could just as easily have been labeled the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Preview.

With seven conference teams competing at Macalester Stadium on Saturday, the Saint Mary's University track and field teams got a good look at the competition for the upcoming MIAC Outdoor Championships in two weeks.

And the opposition got a good look at the Cardinals — and probably didn't like what they saw.

Saint Mary's enjoyed a banner afternoon, sending a warning to the rest of the MIAC with 22 Top 10 finishes — including first-place efforts from Chris Bulwa and the men's 4x100 relay team, and a second-place showing by Samantha Kubes.

The Cardinal throwers got things rolling on Thursday evening, and the rest of the team picked up the baton and kept the momentum going on Saturday.

Samantha Kubes placed second in Thursday's hammer throw, delivering a school-record toss of 51.29 meters — the 30th-best performance in NCAA Division III this season, while Morgan Wallendal added a PR of her own, placing fourth in the event with a throw of 48.06 meters. Casen Fritz posted a season-best throw of 44.89 meters to place fifth in the men's hammer,

Bulwa kicked off his Saturday afternoon teaming with Ben Kritsberg, Jinwoo Jung, and Oliver Adamson to win the first event of the day, the 4x100, with a first-place time of 42.54. Bulwa added a second first in the 100, stopping the clock in 10.82, while Adamson added a second in the 200, breaking the tap in 22.34.

Ron White chipped in a fourth in the discus (38.34m), while Dan Cooper (long jump, fifth, 6.04m; triple jump, seventh, 12.07m), Cannon Manley (400 hurdles, fifth, 1:04.03; 110 hurdles, 10th, 17.75), Antonio Cisewski (long jump, sixth, 5.94m), and Henry Gathje (javelin, 10th, 39.28m) also delivered Top 10 performances for the SMU men on Saturday.

On the women's side, Samantha Munson posted a pair of stellar efforts — placing third in the 200 (26.40) and fourth in the 100 (12.98), while Wallendal notched a third in the shot put (12.77m) and eight in the discus (35.59m) — to go along with her third in the hammer from Thursday.

Caeli McMahon raced to a fourth in the 3,000 (12:44.66), and Isabella Schei (pole vault, sixth, 31.48m), Kubes (shot put, sixth, 11.46m), Erica Wright (shot put, eighth, 10.89m), and Sydney Jackman (shot put, ninth, 10.85m) also finished in the Top 10 for the women on Saturday.

The Cardinals are back in action with a pair of meets next week. A portion of the SMU squad will head to Mankato, Minn., on Wednesday to take part in the MSU-Mankato Maverick Invitational, before the entire squad ventures to St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday to take part in the Hamline Meet of the Un-Saintly
