"What excites me most about this upcoming indoor season is the opportunity to build on the momentum we've created and to watch our student-athletes take the next step in their development," said head track and field coach Darren Schneider in his fifth season. "I'm looking forward to seeing how our preparation, chemistry, and focus come together, and to compete against high-level individuals and programs that challenge us to be better every week."
Saint Mary's returns nine conference athletes this season, including school record holders Zari Young and Mya Slavin, both poised to play key roles in the Cardinals' success.
Following the season opener, the Cardinals will travel to La Crosse, Wisconsin, for the UW–La Crosse Pat Healy Classic on Saturday, Jan. 24, one of the closest meets on this year's schedule. Saint Mary's will compete across three states this season,Minnesota, Wisconsin, and South Dakota, providing a diverse slate of competition.
"Cardinal fans should look forward to an exciting year," said associate head coach Taylor Smith in his fifth season. "On the Women's side we have the chance to build off of a highly successful season as many student-athletes have returned again for this year, including Mya Slavin, Sam Munson, Xara Gin, and Zari Young."
Smith added that the men's program is entering a new chapter, blending experienced returners with an incoming freshman class.
"Pair some of the returning student-athletes with freshmen and this men's program could have the chance to surprise when the season moves along."
The indoor MIAC Championship is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 27–28, and will be hosted by Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota.
