SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Saint Mary's track and field teams opened the indoor season on a strong note Saturday at the Twin Ports Open, highlighted by four first-place finishes in a meet that did not keep team scores.

The Cardinals made an immediate impact in the track events, accounting for three of their four event wins on the oval.

Xara Gin led the way in the field events, claiming the pole vault title with a mark of 3.30 meters, a performance that ranks her inside the top 55 in NCAA Division III.

Mya Slavin continued the momentum on the track, capturing first place in the mile with a personal-best time of 5:16.87. On the men's side, Ryan Cramer sprinted to victory in the 60 meters, crossing the line in 6.98 to earn the top spot and rank 76th nationally in Division III.

The day closed on a high note as the women's 4x400 relay team of Melissa Torres, Rylee O'Konek, Deni Zaharieva, and Slavin took first place with a time of 4:20.79.

In addition to the event wins, the Cardinals posted four new personal bests. Samantha Munson ran a 7.98 in the 60 meters, Emma Gerdes clocked an 8.66 in the same event, Goi Ruei recorded a 1:25.82 in the 600 meters placing him inside the program's top 10 all-time, and Slavin's mile time capped off the list of PRs.

Saint Mary's returns to action next Saturday with a short trip to La Crosse, Wisconsin, for the Pat Healy Classic. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24.
