RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The Saint Mary's track and field teams competed in a strong field at the UW–River Falls Winter Classic on Saturday, highlighted by exciting mixed relay races to close out the meet.
The Cardinals picked up a first-place finish from Mya Slavin, who won the women's mile in a personal-best 5:09.41. Deni Zaharieva also turned in a standout performance, placing second in the women's 400m with a personal-record time of 1:01.61.
The women continued to impress with several fourth-place finishes. McKenzie Munson set a personal best in the 60m with a time of 8.24, Rylee O'Konek clocked a 9.64 in the 60m hurdles, and Xara Gin cleared 3.20m in the pole vault.
On the men's side, Gage Hatch posted a sixth-place finish in the 60m (7.17), while Ron White earned sixth in the throws with a mark of 14.75m. Jackson Perkins followed closely with an 11.70m leap in the triple jump for seventh.
Adding another sixth-place performance for the women, Jossey Saamanen ran an 8.32 in the 60m.
Rounding out the Cardinals' top-10 finishes, Saamanen placed eighth in the women's 200 with a personal-best 27.97, Ameryn Dostal finished ninth in the women's triple jump with a 10.13m mark, and Izzy Schei took 10th in the weight throw at 12.70m.
Saint Mary's returns to action Feb. 13–14 at the SDSU Indoor Classic in Brookings, South Dakota.
