The Cardinals have been off since last Saturday, when Saint John's Levi Lowell picked apart the SMU defense to the tune of three first-half goals in leading the Johnnies to a 5-1 win over SMU at Ochrymowycz Field. … St. Thomas, meanwhile, picked up its fourth straight win Wednesday, shutting out St. Olaf 3-0.

Last Meeting: As if having to overcome a 6-0 loss to Saint John's wasn't enough, the Cardinals had to follow that up by facing St. Thomas — unbeaten in its first eight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference games — in its next contest a year ago. Talk about jumping from the frying pan into the fire. And fueled by a four-goal second half, the Tommies certainly burned SMU, keeping the Cardinals winless in conference play with a 5-1 MIAC win.

All-Time Series Record: With last year's win, the Tommies improved to 14-7-1 all-time against the Cardinals since the 1983 season.

Cardinal Notes: Today's game against St. Thomas is the home finale for the Cardinals, who played their first game on their home turf last weekend against Saint John's. SMU's first five “home” games were played on Winona State's Maxwell Field at Alltel Stadium. … With Saturday's loss to Saint John's, the Cardinals saw their season-high losing streak climb to five straight. SMU is now 1-11-1 since opening the season with a loss to UM-Morris and a 3-2 overtime win over Presentation. …  The Cardinals have been outscored 26-5 during their current six-game slide. … SMU has been held to one goal or less in 11 of its 16 games. …  Steve Boussie (Troy, Mich.) scored SMU's lone goal vs. Saint John's Saturday, converting a second-half penalty kick. Gas also leads the team in points with seven, one in front of Lindsay and Reyes. … Ryan Rademacher (La Crosse, Wis.), who has assisted on two of SMU's last three goals, boasts a team-leading four assists. …  The Cardinals' 13 goals have come from six different players. … The Cardinals have been outscored 17-3 in the second half of their last six games — and 36-7 in the game's final 45 minutes this season. … SMU has been outscored 57-8 in its 12 losses. … The Cardinals have been outshot in 15 of their 16 games, holding a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal in their 2-0 victory over Ripon on Sept. 28. … SMU enters today's game looking for its first conference win since a 2-0 victory over Concordia on Sept. 30, 2006 — a span of 22 games (0-21-1).

Tommie Notes: With their win Wednesday, UST moved into second place in the MIAC standings and can secure a conference playoff berth with one point in either of its final two games — today at Saint Mary's or Nov. 1 at Gustavus. … St. Thomas enters today's game ranked No. 10 in the latest West Region Poll. … UST started the season with eight straight wins and broke into the Division III top 25 rankings. The Tommies then suffered all three of its losses during an 0-3-1 stretch They endured an 0-3-1 stretch — that included a 10-1 loss to UW-Whitewater — before rebounding with their current four-game winning streak. … Wednesday's win kept UST perfect at home this season (10-0-0). The Tommies outscored their opponents 26-8 on their home field. … UST has outscored its opponents 7-1 in the second half during the Tommies' current four-game winning streak. … Jon Stillwell scored two goals and Derek Engler added a goal and an assist vs. the Oles Wednesday. … Mike Hutton is the Tommies' offensive leader with 12 goals, five assists and 29 points.
