Last Action:
The Cardinals rebounded from an 84-64 loss at Augsburg on Monday in impressive fashion, getting a game-tying 3-pointer from Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) with 2.6 seconds remaining in regulation, then outscored Macalester 11-6 in overtime to beat the Scots 70-65 Wednesday in St. Paul, Minn. … Bethel, meanwhile, went 18-for-29 in building a 45-31 first-half lead and never looked back in defeating Saint John's 78-62 Wednesday in Collegeville, Minn.

Last Meeting: SMU made just seven field goals in the first half, and Bethel took advantage, racing out to a 42-28 halftime lead and holding on for a 78-62 conference win on Dec. 6 at the SMU Gym.

A Year Ago: Bethel feasted on the Cardinals' defense a year ago, averaging 88 ppg in sweeping the teams' two conference games. The Cardinals scored 79 points — their third-highest offensive output of the season — and got a career-best 26 points from Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.), but the Royals shot 82 percent from the field in the first half (23-for-28) and rolled to a 98-79 win on Jan. 19. After erupting for 63 points in the first half of their first meeting, Bethel didn't reach 63 points until Tyler Brown scored off an offensive rebound with 6:58 remaining in regulation. Unfortunately for the Cardinals, SMU didn't reach the 63-point plateau at all, managing just 61 points in falling to the Royals 78-61 on Feb. 16.

Cardinal Notes: Wednesday's win over Macalester completed the Cardinals' season sweep of the Scots, and was SMU's second win in its last three games. … The Cardinals' win over the Scots was also their first overtime game since the 2002-03 season, when SMU lost to UST 65-62. SMU's last overtime win came on Dec. 6, 2000, when the Cardinals posted an 80-70 win over St. Olaf. … Lukas Holland (La Crosse, Wis.) scored a team-leading 21 points in the Cardinals' overtime win over Macalester on Wednesday. Holland's effort marked the 14th time in SMU's 16 games win which they boasted at least one 20-point scorer. SMU was held without a 20-point scorer in Monday's loss at Augsburg, when Holland's 13 points were the team high. … Holland's 13 points vs. Augsburg Monday were also the fewest by the team's leading scorer all season. … Holland has now scored 20 or more points in six games this season and has reached double figures in 22 of the team's last 23 games. … Will Wright (Chicago, Ill.) — named the MIAC's Co-Player of the Week after averaging 27 points and six rebounds in the Cardinals' two games last week, chipped in 17 points vs. Macalester Wednesday. … Wright scored a team-high 30 points vs. St. Olaf last Saturday, marking the third time this season the SMU sophomore has eclipsed the 30-point barrier. … Wright has now scored 10 or more points in 35 of the team's last 41 games — including 20 or more points 10 times in the Cardinals' last 15 contests. … Bradley Bruno (Chicago, Ill.) collected his second collegiate double-double vs. Macalester Wednesday, scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Bruno's other double-double was a career-high 22-points, 10-rebound effort vs. Hamline on Jan. 7. … Bruno is the only Cardinal this season with a double-double. …  That 22-point effort by Bruno vs. Hamline on Jan. 7 was just the second time this season — and just the second time in SMU's last 32 games — that Holland or Wright have not led the team in scoring. …  Wright and Holland enter tonight's game averaging in double figures, with Wright boasting a team-best 20.8 ppg average, while Holland is at 16.3 ppg. Wright is also ranked No. 2 in the MIAC in scoring with his 20.4 ppg average. …  SMU's win at Macalester was its first road win in eight tries this season.
