FAYETTE, Iowa — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team turned to a freshmen to get them on the scoreboard Wednesday afternoon, as Patrick Moore (Woodbury, Minn.) netted his first collegiate goal to give the Cardinals a 1-0 first-half lead against NCAA Division II Upper Iowa.

How did the Peacocks answer? By going to an old standby — junior Derek Oelmann.

Oelmann scored a minute after Moore's tally, added his second seven minutes later, and completed the hat trick in the game's 80th minute in leading Upper Iowa to a 4-1 nonconference setback.

Moore got the Cardinals on the board in the game's 30th minute, but celebration was short-lived, as Oelmann netted the first of his three goals a minute later. Oelmann would add Goal No. 2 before the first half ended and converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute to push UIU's advantage to 3-1. Oelmann didn't score the Peacocks' final goal, but he did set it up, assisting Quentin Duquenne's second half goal that rounded out the scoring.

SMU goalkeeper Chris Williams (Chicago, Ill.), finished with four saves, while UIU's Jordan Bell stopped three of the four Cardinal shots he faced.

The Cardinals (2-9-0 overall) are back in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Confernece play on Friday, traveling to Macalester for a 7 p.m. contest against the Scots.
