RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University fastpitch softball team, which closed out the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference portion of its schedule with a sweep of Carleton on Sunday, steps out of conference play Tuesday for a season-ending nonconference doubleheader against UW-River Falls. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.

The Records:
Saint Mary's Cardinals: 16-22 Overall
UW-River Falls Falcons: 22-14 Overall

Last Action:
Despite rolling to 9-1 and 10-2 victories over Carleton in Northfield, Minn., on Sunday, the Cardinals saw their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament hopes dashed when St. Olaf knocked off Augsburg 2-1 in the first game of their conference twinbill. SMU needed Augsburg to sweep St. Olaf to earn a spot in the four-team post-season conference tournament. UW-River Falls, meanwhile, failed to plate a run in its WIAC doubleheader against UW-Whitewater Sunday, as the Falcons fell 4-0 and 3-0 in Whitewater, Wis.

Last Meeting — March 28, 2009:
The Falcons raced out to a seven-run lead in the opener, and had to hold on for dear life, as SMU pulled to within two — and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning — in falling to UW-River Falls 7-5 at SMU Field. In the nightcap, UW-RF again raced out to a huge lead, this time a 7-1, second-inning cushion, only to have SMU score nine unanswered runs and take a two-run, 10-8 lead into the top of the seventh — where Mindy Rudiger belted a three-run home run over the center field fence to complete the Falcons' sweep, 11-10.
