WINONA, Minn. — For the second year in a row, Rebecca Snyder (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was recognized among the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's elite, as the Saint Mary's University sophomore tennis standout was named to the All-MIAC First Team in singles.

This time around, however, Snyder was not alone on the conference's center stage — she brought along a little All-MIAC First-Team company in the form of fellow sophomore Bailey Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.).

And as good as Snyder and Edwards were in singles, they were equally as good as a doubles tandem, also landing All-MIAC honors in doubles.

Jeff Halberg found himself sharing the center-stage spotlight, as the Cardinal head coach was named Co-MIAC Coach of the Year, sharing the honor with Gustavus' Jon Carlson. Carlson led the Gusties to their 19th consecutive MIAC regular season title with a 10-0 conference record, while Halberg's Cardinals earned their first MIAC Tournament berth, claiming the No. 6 seed in this weekend's tournament.

Snyder collected a team-best eight conference singles wins for the Cardinals, who earned their first MIAC Tournament berth since the conference went to the six-team format in 2007. The Cardinal sophomore — who was a perfect 6-0 at No. 2 singles a year ago — finished with an 8-2 mark this season, with all 10 matches again being played at No. 2 singles.

Edwards, meanwhile, was the Cardinals' No. 1 singles player for the second straight season, compiling a 7-3 record in her 10 conference matches. She and Snyder also teamed up to play all 10 conference matches at No. 1 doubles, posting a 7-3 record.

The 2010 Chris Evert Award was presented to Gustavus senior Sierra Krebsbach. The award annually recognizes a senior tennis student-athlete with outstanding sportsmanship and exemplary athletic, academic, and humanitarian accomplishments.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the third annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for women's tennis. SMU's Abby Cooper (La Crosse, Wis.) was named as the Cardinals' representative on the team. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
