WINONA, Minn. – Quick-striking Auggies scored early and never looked back as the Auggies defeated the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Ochrymowycz Field.

“I think it's Augsburg's quality,” head coach Pete Watkins said. “They've got a very deep and fast team and that took its toll on us – especially at this stage in the year.”

Augsburg's depth was evident in their offense, as seven different Auggies collected points in the game. Gottlieb Uahengo got the scoring started 4:01 into the game off passes from Mathias Macody Lund and and Matt Bowman.

Peter Lloyd added the next Auggie goal with 17:94 remaining in the game, while Matt Knutson closed out the scoring just 11 minutes later.

Joey Petrich (Elk River, Minn.) started in goal for the Cardinals and made one save, while senior goalkeeper Chris Williams (Chicago, Ill.) came in for the second half and collected two saves in his final game as a Cardinal. Zach Palma (Washburn, Wis.) led the offense for the Cardinals while recording two shots.

Watkins had four seniors - Williams, Bobby Gas (Lake Zurich, Ill.), Bryan Neu (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) and Juamaine Venter (Rochester, Minn.) - playing in their last collegiate game who were celebrated Saturday during Senior Day.

“All four guys contributed in different ways and were all very impactful,” Watkins said. “Chris was obviously our starting keeper for most of the year. Bryan Neu is one of the better players I've ever coached. It was a pleasure to coach him.
“Juamaine (Venter) and Bobby (Gas) both had different roles this year and they were willing to do it for the team to help us.”

The Cardinals finished the season 1-9-0 in the MIAC and 2-13-2 overall.
