Concordia-WI Match Summary
JACKSON, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team made it look easy Saturday evening, as the Cardinals posted back-to-back 8-1 nonconference victories over Milwaukee School of Engineering and Concordia-Wisconsin at the Pleasant Valley Tennis Center.
“We played solidly against MSOE, but really turned it up against Concordia — playing some of best tennis of the season,” said SMU coach
Jeff Halberg. “Sweeping the singles portion (against Concordia) was especially pleasing — Concordia is a solid team and we played exceptionally well against them.”
SMU opened the day by sweeping its three doubles matches against MSOE, dropping just six games. Mike Lunka (Eagan, Minn.),
Tim Wolford (Maple Grove, Minn.), Pawel Czczepkowski (Opolskie, Poland),
Bobby Steingraeber (La Crosse, Wis.) and
Sam Puff (Eden Prairie, Minn.) then added dominating straight-set singles wins.
And it was more of the same against Concordia-Wisconsin, Lunka, Wolford, Szczepkowski, Puff,
Andrew Rangitsch (Oakdale, Minn.) and
Gavin Smith (White Bear Lake, Minn.) were straight-set winners.
“It was a solid day for us,” said Halberg, whose team closes out its busy weekend on Sunday, taking on Carroll College in a nonconference match at the Moorland Tennis Center in New Berlin, Wis. “Hopefully we can round off the weekend with a win against Carroll.”
