SARTELL, Minn. — Saint John's jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead following the doubles matches and never looked back, as the Johnnies handed the Saint Mary's University men's tennis team a 9-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback at the Gold's Gym courts Sunday.

The Johnnies took advantage of three, three-set singles wins in handing the Cardinals the setback in their final conference match of the season, as Tim Wolford (Maple Grove, Minn.), Sam Puff (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Bobby Steingraeber (La Crosse, Wis.) all rallied from first-set losses, only to fall in the third and decisive set. Wolford fell 7-5, 6-7, 10-4 at No. 2, Puff dropped a 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 decision at No. 4 and Steingraeber was a 7-6, 3-6, 11-9 loser at No. 5.

The Cardinals close out their 2011 regular-season schedule on Tuesday, hosting Minnesota State Mankato in a 3 p.m. nonconference match at the Winona Tennis Center.
