ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University tennis teams, off since last Saturday's conference matches against Hamline, are back in action Saturday, traveling to Macalester for a pair of MIAC matches.

Last Action:
The Cardinal men are coming off a heartbreaking, 5-4 conference loss against Hamline last Saturday, while the SMU women were 7-2 victors over the Pipers, with both matches played at the Winona Tennis Center. … Macalester's men were blanked by St. Thomas on March 31, falling 9-0 at the Lakeville Lifetime Fitness, while the Scot women dropped a 9-0 decision against Carleton on Sunday in Northfield, Minn.

SMU Women vs. Macalester — February 28, 2010:
Fresh off wins over Northwestern and Winona State — SMU's third straight win over the Warriors — in the two days prior, the Cardinals completed the trifecta against Macalester, riding a sweep of the three doubles matches to a 6-3 MIAC victory at the Winona Tennis Center.

SMU Men vs. Macalester — February 28, 2010:
Michael Lunka (Eden Prairie, Minn.) rallied from a 6-3 loss in the opening set to beat Macalester's Chris Fowler 6-3, 10-6. That, however, was the lone bright spot for the Cardinals in their Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against the Scots, as Macalester cruised to straight-set wins in four of the other five singles matches and swept the doubles en route to an 8-1 victory at the Winona Tennis Center.

SMU Up Next:
The Cardinal women are off until next Saturday, when they travel to River Falls, Wis., for a pair of nonconference matches against UW-Stevens Point and UW-River Falls. The SMU men, meanwhile, also take to the road, heading to St. Paul, Minn., for a nonconference match against Northwester on Friday.

Last Saturday's match against Hamline was just the fourth home match of the season for the Cardinals, who have played 10 of their 14 matches away from home. … The Cardinals' 5-4 loss vs. Hamline was as close a match as you can get — with four of the six singles matches going the maximum three sets, while two of the three doubles matches were decided by 8-6 scores. … Michael Lunka (Eagan, Minn.) and Tim Wolford (Maple Grove, Minn.) had a hand in three of the team's four wins vs. Hamline last Saturday, as Lunka was a three-set winner at No. 1 singles, and Wolford rebounded from a first-set loss to win in three sets at No. 2. The duo then combined for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles. … Sam Puff (Eden Prairie, Minn.) picked up his team-leading eighth dual-match singles win of the season vs. the Pipers last Saturday, while Lunka is second with seven wins in singles play. … All seven of Lunka's singles wins have come at No. 1, while Puff is 2-1 at No. 3, 3-3 at No. 4 and 3-2 at No. 5. … Wolford has now won six of his last nine singles matches and is 7-4 in his 11 doubles matches. … After losing his first three doubles matches of the season, Steven Mino (Austin, Minn.) has rattled off eight doubles wins in his last 11 matches. … Mino's eight dual-match doubles wins are a tied for the team lead with Lunka.

The Cardinals snapped a two-match losing streak with last Saturday's 7-2 win over Hamline. … SMU's last two matches have both been decided by a 7-2 count — a 7-2 loss to UW-La Crosse last Friday, and a 7-2 win over Hamline last Saturday. … Bailey Edwards (Fond du Lac, Wis.) won both of her singles matches last weekend, giving the SMU junior 16 singles wins this season — a mark that ties the school record for wins in a season. … Edwards enters Saturday's match at Macalester 13-3 in duals, while adding a 3-1 showing in last September's USTA/ITA Midwest Regional. … With her 6-1, 6-0 victory over Hamline's Kelsey Eatherton last Saturday, Edwards pushed her school-record career wins total to 42. … Edwards also teamed with her sister, Killian Edwards to post an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles last Saturday. It was her school record-tying 36th doubles win of her three-year collegiate career. Macalester's 9-0 loss against St. Thomas on March 31 snapped the Scots' season-high three-match winning streak. … Saturday's match against Saint Mary's is the second time this season the Scots have faced a Saint Mary's — Macalester beat St. Mary's (Md.) 8-1 during their spring trip to Hilton Head, S.C., on March 15. … Michael Coleman and Chris Fowler share the team lead in singles wins with seven each. Coleman is 7-4 at No. 1 singles, while Fowler is 7-3 at No. 2. … Both Coleman and Fowler had their three-match winning streaks snapped in the Scots' loss to St. Thomas on March 31. … Coleman and Paul Mairet have teamed for a 7-3 record at No. 1 doubles, while the doubles team of Max Edwards and Lewis Wilcox has also recorded seven wins, going 1-0 at No. 1 and 6-4 at No. 2. … Macalester is 40-26 in singles play, while also going 20-13 in doubles play.
