GameDay Preview
ONALASKA, Wis. — With her final Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships just a week away, Saint Mary's University's
Gia Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) wanted to make sure her game was in tip-top shape.
And if her performance at the Viterbo Invitational is any indication, the Cardinal senior is primed and ready.
Puch opened the 36-hole tournament with an 86 — her second-lowest 18 hole score of the season — and followed that up with an 88 on Sunday at the La Crosse Country Club for a 174 total.
Puch's effort helped the Cardinals to a fourth-place showing in their final tournament before the season-ending conference championships next weekend.
Rachel Lamberty (Farmington, Minn.) carded a 94 on Sunday for a 183 total, followed by
Lauren Ulbrich (Rochester, Minn. / 97-102—199),
Jenna Mrozinski (North St Paul, Minn. / 103-96—199) and
Kristine Froseth (Owatonna, Minn. / 103-118—221).
“Gia played two pretty solid rounds, and Rachel struck the ball well, but couldn't get some putts to fall,” said SMU coach Kevin Landrum. “We learned some things out there this weekend, and have some specific things to work on this week heading into the conference championships.”
The Cardinals kick off play in the MIAC Championships on Saturday at Bunker Hills Golf Course in Coon Rapids, Minn. Second-round play is set for Sunday, with the third and final round scheduled for Monday.
