MIAC Release

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University tennis teams made a clean sweep of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honors, as Collin Kaczorowski (Suamico, Wis.) and Deanne Webber (Reedsburg, Wis.) earned the conference's weekly honors, it was announced Tuesday.

Kaczorowski has been virtually unbeatable this season, compiling a daunting 13-1 record in singles play — the most singles wins in the MIAC this season — while adding a 10-3 mark in doubles competition. The freshman was a perfect 4-0 last Saturday, winning both of his singles matches against Edgewood and Augustana — including a three-set marathon against the regionally ranked Vikings — while also picking up a pair of doubles victories.

With Kaczorowski in the lead, the Cardinals improved to 10-1 in nonconference play and 11-4 overall. SMU returns to action on April 3, when they square off against Milwaukee School of Engineering in a nonconference match, before returning to MIAC play on Thursday, April 4 against Bethel in Arden Hills, Minn.

As good as Kaczorowski was last week, Webber was equally as impressive, as the senior also posted a perfect 4-0 record in SMU's two nonconference matches last Sunday — 6-3 wins over Edgewood and St. Norbert.

Webber, who leads the team with eight singles wins this season, recorded a 6-1, 6-2, win at No. 3 singles against Edgewood on the heels of an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. She followed that up with a second straight-set singles win — this time a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 3 — while dropping just one game in her 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles.

The Cardinals evened their record at 6-6 overall with their two non-league games against Edgewood and St. Norbert, are back in conference play on April 6, when they host St. Olaf in a 3 p.m. match at the Winona Tennis Center.
