WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University and Lakeland men's soccer teams entered Thursday evening's nonconference game at Ochrymowycz Field boasting identical, unblemished 2-0-0 records.
And after 110 minutes, the Cardinals and Muskies exited Ochrymowycz Field with identical, unblemished records after battling to a 1-1 stalemate.
The Muskies wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Farouk Dadzie feathered a shot off the right post and past SMU goalkeeper
Joey Petrich (Elk River, Minn.) before the game was even four minutes old.
The Cardinals got the equalizer nine minutes later, as
Fernando Camacho (Chicago, Ill.) notched his first of the season to make it a 1-1 game.
SMU had a pair of golden opportunities to break the 1-1 deadlock, but both times
Matt Graber (Denver, Colo.) was stymied — the first when the junior's shot clanked off the post 22 minutes into the first half and the second when Lakeland goalkeeper Austin Ganzke robbed him on a point-blank shot seven minutes into the second half.
Lakeland also its share of chances to break the tie, but the Muskies could not get a second shot past Petrich, who made is biggest save of the game on a shot by Bandon Barry with 10 minutes left in regulation.
Petrich finished the game with five saves, while Ganzke stopped seven of the eight SMU shots he faced.
After three straight home games, the Cardinals (2-0-1 overall) hit the road on Sunday, traveling to Madison, Wis., for a 2 p.m. nonconference contest against Edgewood.
