WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's tennis team gave it everything they had in their season finale against Macalester Saturday afternoon, but the banged-up Cardinals were no match for the Scots in falling 7-2 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at the Winona Tennis Center.

"The guys played hard and gave it everything they had," said Saint Mary's coach Jeff Halberg. "But we are the walking wounded right now — two starters were unable to play and another had to retire.

"Still, the guys fought up, we just ran out of gas."

Gavin Smith (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Nick Kasel (Minneapolis, Minn.) — playing in their final collegiate tennis match — teamed for an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles, while Collin Kaczorowski (Suamico, Wis.) collected the Cardinals' other win at No. 2 singles.

Saint Mary's closes out the season with a 2-7 record in conference play, while finishing with a 13-9 overall mark.
