WINONA, Minn. - The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team has been playing at such a high level this season that the Cardinals were bound to have an "off" night.

Unfortunately, the Cardinals picked a bad time to not be at their best.

Bethel picked up wins in all three doubles matches and won four of the six singles matches in straight sets in handing the Cardinals a 9-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference setback Saturday at the Winona Tennis Center.

"Bethel played very well today," said SMU coach Jeff Halberg. "We weren't at our best today, but Bethel thoroughly deserved their win.

"Hopefully, we will pick it up (Sunday) against St. Thomas."

The Royals cruised to wins at all three doubles competitions, winning 8-6 at No. 1 and 8-2 and No. 2 and No. 3.

BU added four straight-set singles wins, with Collin Kaczorowski (Suamico, Wis.) and Blake Olmscheid (Farmington, Minn.) falling in three sets.

The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday, hosting St. Thomas in an 11 a.m. conference match at the Winona Tennis Center.
