LAKE CITY, Minn. —
Madison Gately (Glenview, Ill.) and
Kaitlin Kling (LeRoy, Minn.) swapped places for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team during the final round of the D3 Classic Sunday at The Jewel.
Gately led the way during the opening day of the 36-hole tournament, carding a team-best 92, while Kling was second with a 94. On Sunday, it was Kling leading the Cardinal charge, shooting an 88, with Gately close behind with a 93, as the duo helped Saint Mary's to a 14th-place showing in the 36-hole event.
Paul Avila (Weslaco, Texas) posted her best round of the season, firing a second-day 97, while
Haley Jung (Monticello, Minn. / 100) and
Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth, Minn. / 110) rounded out the Cardinals' lineup.
Carleton captured the team title, finishing with a 36-hole total of 621, eight shots in front of runner-up St. Thomas, followed by St. Catherine (637), Wartburg (640), Gustavus (670), and Bethel (670).
Five players shared medalist honors with eight-over-par 152s—Sydney Busker of St. Catherine (75-77), Brooke Klostermann (76-76) and Rochelle Beardsley (74-78) of Wartburg, Ayumi Sakamoto from Carleton (78-74), and Rachel Morris of St. Thomas (75-77).
Saint Mary's is back in action on Friday and Saturday, traveling to the Oneota Country Club in Decorah, Iowa, to take part in the 36-hole Luther Invitational.
