Cardinals roll to 9-0 win over Martin Luther

WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's tennis team was good in its 7-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss to 27-time conference defending champion Gustavus Saturday.

The Cardinals were downright dominating in their second match of the day, rolling to a 9-0 nonconference victory over Martin Luther Saturday afternoon at the Winona Tennis Center.

"It was a solid win to finish the day," said Saint Mary's coach Jeff Halberg. "The guys played very well against Gustavus earlier in the day, and there really was no letdown—they came out and played just as well in beating Martin Luther."

The Cardinals dropped just three games in breezing to 8-1, 8-2, and 8-0 wins in the three doubles matches, then completed the sweep with six straight-set wins in singles.

Kyle Swanson (Oak Grove, Minn.) highlighted the Cardinals' singles sweep, collecting his first collegiate win with a 6-1, 6-1 over the Knights' Ethan Schultz at No. 6.

The Cardinals (5-3 overall) are off until next Saturday and Sunday, when they square off against Webber International, Ohio Northern, and Adrian as part of their Florida spring trip.
