WAVERLY, Iowa — For the first time this season,
Madison Gately (Glenview, Ill.) took the lead for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's golf team, carding a season-low 88 during the opening round of the Wartburg Invitational Saturday.
With Gately in the lead, the Cardinals put together an opening-round score of 394 and are sitting 14
th heading into Sunday's final round.
Carleton is the Day 1 team leader, shooting a 314 to take a five shot lead over UW-Stout in Sunday's second round at Prairie Links Golf Course. St. Thomas is sitting in third, six shots back, followed by UW-Oshkosh (325), Grinnell (33), and Illinois Wesleyan (330).
Grinnell's Vidushi Sinha is the individual leader after 18 holes, shooting a 71, five shots better than Bethel's Christine Piwnica. Morgan McCorkle is third following a 77, and five others shot 78s.
Along with Gately's 88, the Cardinals also got a 91 from
Kaitlin Kling (LeRoy, Minn.), a 107 from
Grace Gillis (New Ulm, Minn.), a 108 from
Michaela Heuckendorf (Plymouth), and a 109 from
Ana Reding (Stillwater, Minn.).
