Three wins.
The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota men's tennis team—coming off 7-2 and 6-3 wins over Milwaukee School of Engineering and Lawrence, respectively, over the past two days—made it 3-for-3 Tuesday evening, cruising to an 8-1 nonconference win over St. Norbert.
"This was a great finish to a very successful trip," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "Everyone played really well and it was a total team effort."
The Cardinals got off to a quick start against the Green Knights, getting 8-2, 8-4 and 8-6 doubles wins from
Alex Holm (Red Wing, Minn.)/
Andrew Johnson (Red Wing, Minn.),
Brenden Amiotte (Rapid City, S.D.)/
Bobby Tiedemann (Euclid, Minn.), and
Alex Zuzek (Hastings, Minn.)/
Robbie Sobczak (Cloquet, Minn.).
And Saint Mary's picked up right where it left off in the singles portion, picking up victories at Nos. 1-5. Amiotte,
Brett Giesen (Cato, Wis.), Tiedemann, and Zuzek all won in straight sets, while Holm rallied from a set down to win 6-7 (3), 7-5, 10-4 at No. 4.
The Cardinals (6-3 overall) return to conference play on March 10-11, entertaining Hamline in a 6 p.m. matchup at the Winona Tennis Center on March 10, before traveling to St. Peter, Minn., for an 11 a.m. matchup against Gustavus.
