WINONA, Minn. — New year, same impressive result.
The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis kicked off the 2018 season in the much the same dominating fashion the Cardinals have the last two seasons—with a 9-0 victory.
The Cardinals picked up their 11
th straight victory over Martin Luther with their third straight season-opening sweep, breezing to wins in all three doubles matches—not to mention dropping just 13 games en route to six, straight-set singles wins.
"A perfect way to end the preseason," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "A solid win with consistent play from everyone."
Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.) and
Colleen Lois (St. James, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals, as Boeve recorded a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, while Lois was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 3.
The Cardinals (1-0 overall) kick off Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Sunday, traveling to Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville, Minn., for an 11 a.m. matchup against Carleton.
