ST. PETER, Minn. — Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.) and Cassandra Barr (Eau Claire, Wis.) were virtually unbeatable for the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team at the Gustavus Fall Invitational Saturday.

Check that — Boeve and Barr were unbeatable, period.

The Cardinal duo, which kicked off tournament play with an 8-4 win against UW-Whitewater on Friday, kicked off Saturday's action with back-to-back 8-5 wins over Bethel and UW-La Crosse to reach the tournament's title match.

And in that title match, Boeve/Barr continued their winning ways, taking down the team from UW-Eau Claire 8-5 to bring home the doubles crown.

Laura Sonday (West St. Paul, Minn.) and Colleen Lois (Green Bay, Wis.) also had a memorable Day 2 Saturday, bouncing back from a 8-6 loss in their opening doubles match of the ITA Midwest Regional on Friday by putting together back-to-back wins over Northwestern and Edgewood — both by 8-2 counts — to claim the consolation title.

Boeve got her busy Saturday started on a winning note, as the Saint Mary's senior posted a convincing 6-0, 6-1 win over Edgewood's Alicia Picard at the ITA Midwest Regional. Her run ended in the following match, however, as Boeve lost a three-set marathon, 6-2, 4-6, 10-8.

Also in singles, Sonday — who opened ITA play with a come-from-behind, 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 win over Gustavus' Hannah Borgh — dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to UW-Whitewater's Gabi Kitchell.

Barr, meanwhile, had her ITA run — which started with back-to-back wins over Eliza Sundemann of Coe (2-6, 6-2, 6-1) and UW-Oshkosh's Alyssa Leffler (6-2, 6-3) — derailed with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Hamline's Ali Koplecki

Colleen Lois (Green Bay, Wis.) also suffered an ITA singles loss Saturday, falling 7-5, 6-2 to UW-La Crosse's Kaitlyn Kalinka.

Ashley Frederickson (St. James, Minn.) and Madyson Schreiber (Edwardsville, Ill.) picked up doubles wins over Gustavus (8-3) and Concordia (Wis.) (8-0) at the Gustavus Fall Invitational Saturday, but were eliminated with an 8-4 loss to another team from Gustavus.

The doubles team of Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) and Kennedy Morgan (Green Bay, Wis.) opened the day with an 8-5 win over Carroll, but were ousted by Whitewater, 8-2. Isabella Kranz and Sarrianna Hoffer (Wausau, Wis.) lost their Saturday doubles match, falling 8-1 to St. Norbert.

The Cardinals kick off their 2018 spring season on Jan. 25, hosting Martin Luther in a 6 p.m. nonconference match at the Winona Tennis Center. Saint Mary's opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Feb. 9, heading to St. Peter, Minn., for a showdown against Gustavus.
