WINONA, Minn. —
Julia Boeve (St. James, Minn.) has certainly made the most of her final season as a member of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's tennis team.
The senior has been a wins machine for the Cardinals — both in single and doubles — and her efforts are not going unnoticed.
Boeve — who was a perfect 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles in Saint Mary's three matches last weekend — collected her first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week honor, when the league office announced this week's winners on Tuesday.
Boeve dropped just five games in her three singles matches last weekend and posted 8-1 and 8-0 doubles wins against Hamline and UW-River Falls, before suffering an 8-4 setback against Saint Benedict.
Playing at No. 4 singles, Boeve cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win against Hamline last Friday, followed that up with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against UW-River Falls on Saturday, and completed the singles trifecta with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph against Saint Benedict on Sunday.
As good as she was in singles, Boeve was equally as impressive in doubles, teaming with
Kailee Johnson (Rochester, Minn.) for an 8-1 victory at No. 3 against Hamline, before adding an 8-0 victory at No. 1 while paired with
Cassandra Barr (Eau Claire, Wis.).
With her three singles wins, Boeve — who has now won 11 consecutive matches — became the Cardinals' all-time career singles wins leader with 60, breaking the mark of 57, previously held by Bailey Edwards and Megan Vandenberg.
Boeve heads into this weekend's matches against Carleton and Luther owning the team lead with 14 singles wins (14-4), while sporting an 10-6 record in 16 doubles dual matches.
