ST. PETER, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's tennis team closed out the fall portion of its schedule, taking part in Day 2 of the ITA Midwest Regional and Gustavus Fall Invitational Saturday.

And despite having to dodge rain drops early in the day, the Cardinals certainly made the most of their final action of the fall.

Cassandra Barr (Eau Claire, Wis.), who dropped her first singles match at the ITA Midwest Regional on Friday, bounced back with a three-set, 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 win over UW-La Crosse's Kaitlyn Kalinka. Barr's run came to an in her second match of the afternoon, however, as the Cardinal senior dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Simpson's Emily King.

Maggie Frye (Colorado Springs, Colo.) — who bounced back from an opening-round loss with back-to-back wins on Friday — saw her first Gustavus Fall Invitational come to a close Saturday with an 8-3 setback at the hands of Grinnell's Marnie Sevier.

The Cardinals also had a pair of doubles team sin action on Saturday at the Gustavus Fall Invitational.

Maddie Dosser (South St. Paul, Minn.) and Sarrianna Hofer (Wausau, Wis.) teamed up for an 8-6 win over Concordia-Moorhead's Ivy Mattson/Brianna Bell, while Zoie Becker (St. James, Minn.)/Frye also opened with a win, beating St. Thomas' Chloe Asuncion/Anna Miller 8-0 — and followed that up with an 8-2 victory over Megan Grubb/Lorin Miller of Simpsonof Simpson.

The Cardinal duo completed their run with an 8-5 victory over a doubles team from Northwestern/Bethel to claim the consolation title.

Dosser/Hofer, meanwhile, fell short in their second doubles match of the afternoon, losing an 8-0 decision to Grinnell's Emma Gaydos/Sara Amano.

The Cardinals kick off their 2020 spring season on Jan. 24, hosting Martin Luther in a 5:30 p.m. nonconference match at the Winona Tennis Center. Saint Mary's opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Feb. 14, hosting St. Thomas at the Winona Tennis Center for a 6 p.m. matchup.
