MANKATO, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University track and field teams had one final chance to strut their stuff before the indoor season-ending Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships next weekend in Collegeville, Minn.
And strut they did.
The Cardinals broke three school records — including two by
Kyle Lichttenegger — and delivered 12 Top 10 performances at the Minnesota State-Mankato Maverick Open Friday evening.
Lichttenegger — who has been a record-breaking machine this season — broke the school mark in both the 60 (6.89) and 200 (22.19), while also adding a first-place leap of 7.00 meters in winning the long jump. Lichttenegger's 6.89 in the 60 has him sitting eighth in the nation, while his 22.19 in the 200 is the 10th-fastest in the country this season.
The other school record came from the men's 4 x 400 relay team of
Noah Anderson,
Garrett Jackson,
Jake Hogan, and
Matt Boone, as the quartet shattered the previous school mark by three seconds with a time of 3:26.09.
Ben Borash (600, 1:28.29) and
Jon Meaden (mile, 4:32.74) each chipped in fifth-place performances, while
Garrett Jackson (400, 51.33) and
Ted Sweet (600, 1:28.29) added sxith-place efforts.
On the women's side, Danielle Franke led the way with a fourth-place time of 11:11.74 in the 3,000, while Rachel Ohde was fifth in the high jump (1.53m), Sydney Klausler was seventh in the long jump (5.34m) and eighth in the 200 (26.36), and Anna Swanson was eighth in the 600 (1:42.40).
Saint Mary's return to the track next weekend, as the Cardinals head to Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minn., next Friday and Saturday for the MIAC Indoor Championships.
