COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. —
Kyle Lichttenegger has enjoyed a record-setting indoor season for the Saint Mary's University track and field team.
And as good as the season had been to this point — it paled in comparison to Friday's effort at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships.
Lichttenegger — who had already equaled or broken seven school records this season — collected No. 8 in impressive fashion Friday.
Already owner of the fourth-longest long jump effort of the season, Lichttenegger decided to improve his stock, uncorking a school- and conference- record leap of 7.56 meters — the top performance in all of NCAA Division III this season.
And Lichttenegger wasn't done, as the long jump conference champion added a second-place, All-MIAC effort in the 60, stopping the clock in 6.91.
Lichttenegger's long jump performance was not only a school record, but also a conference record — by more than a foot — and the 13th longest effort ever in NCAA Division III history.
Sydney Klausler picked up the Cardinals' third all-conference honor, placing second in the long jump with leap of 5.49 meters — the second longest leap in program history — and Rachel Ohde added all-conference effort No. 4, a second-place showing in the high jump, clearing 1.53 meters.
Bailey Joens (Osage, Iowa) had kicked things off on a high note and the rest of the Saint Mary's University of Minnesota track and field team picked up right where she left off.
Along with the Cardinals' conference champion and three second-place performances,
Klausler added a eight-place effort in the 60 with a time of 8.23, while
Anthony Pasquesi recorded a career-best leap of 6.39 meters to place ninth in the long jump.
Other Cardinal top performances Friday included:
Garrett Jackson placed eighth in 400 (51.54), Jacob Hogan was 11th in 400 (52.08),
Matthew Stack posted an 11th-place showing in the pole vault, clearing 3.91 meters, while
Sean Curran was 13th in weight throw (14.01m) and Danielle Franke added a 13th in the 5,000 (19:14.60).
The Cardinals will return to Saint John's on Saturday for the final day of the conference indoor championships. Field events begin at noon and track events kicking off at 1 p.m.
