  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
The Cardinals put together their second straight 1-1 weekend to open the season, beating Wartburg 6-3 last Saturday, before falling to St. Olaf 7-2 the following afternoon. … Saint Mary's 7-2 loss to St. Olaf snapped the Cardinals' two-match winning streak. … Brandon Kurilla (Hastings, Minn.), Trevor Smiley (Minnetonka, Minn.), Gabe Graves (Littleton, Colo.), and E.J. Hietala (Duluth, Minn.) all picked up singles wins in Saint Mary's 6-3 win over Wartburg last Saturday, while Smiley was the lone singles winner against St. Olaf. Graves and Reilly Fredell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) posted doubles wins against both Wartburg and St. Olaf last weekend. … Smiley heads into this weekend's matches against Hamline and St. Thomas leading the Cardinals with three singles wins in four matches, one more than Graves, Hietala, Kurilla, and Josh Janssen (Green Bay, Wis.). … Smiley has won each of his last three singles matches. … Smiley (No. 4) and Graves (No. 5) are the only Cardinals to have played all four matches at the same position. … The 4-6, 6-0, 10-3 win by Hietala at No. 6 singles against Loras on March 6 was his first collegiate singles victory. … Fredell leads the team with three doubles wins each, including a 2-1 record with Graves as his doubles partners. … Graves, Janssen, and Evan Huemoeller (Owatonna, Minn.) are all second to Fredell with two doubles wins each. … With their 7-2 win over Loras and 6-3 victory against Wartburg this season, the Cardinals have improved to 67-24 in nonconference matches since 2012.
  HAMLINE PIPERS SCOUTING REPORT
The Pipers kicked off their 2021 spring season on a winning note, dropping Wartburg 6-3 in a nonconference match on March 6. … Hamline got in eight matches in 2020 — going 1-7 — before the pandemic shut everything down. … Elijah Krause, Nazeer Robinson, Sam Thompson, and Dominic Warzecha picked up Hamline's four singles wins against Wartburg on March 6, while Robinson/Krause and Isaac Hultberg/Tou Ger Xiong were victorious in doubles. … Robinson, Ger Xiong, and Blake Kuether were the team's singles leaders a year ago with two wins each. … Allan Yang had a hand in two of the Pipers' three doubles wins last season, teaming with Kuether once and Sean Le once. … Five of HU's seven losses were 9-0 setbacks, with the other two coming by 7-2 counts. HU's lone win a year ago was a 7-2 victory over UM-Morris on March 1.
  ST.  THOMAS TOMMIES SCOUTING REPORT
The Tommies enter this weekend's matches against Concordia and Saint Mary's sporting a 2-2 record through four matches this season — beating Carthage (5-4) and St. Scholastica (7-2), while losing to NCAA Division I foes North Dakota (7-0) and Creighton (7-0). … Sunday's match against Saint Mary's is the first official "home" match for the Tommies, who call Life Time Fitness in Eden Prairie, Minn., their home courts. … Lennart Buhl and Myles Krzewinski share the team lead with two singles wins each, while Aahish Bharath, Anshul Bharath, Tritan Fjelstad, Noah LaTour, and Jordan Scheneck own the other five UST singles wins. … Frank Stich is the only Tommie to play all four matches at the same position (No. 1 singles). … Sterling Sibley has had a hand in two of UST's three doubles victories this season — teaming with Krzewinski and Will Schneider for wins at No. 3. … In four matches, St. Thomas owns a 9-15 record in singles, while going 3-9 in doubles play.
