  SAINT MARY'S CARDINALS SCOUTING REPORT
The Cardinals put together their third straight 1-1 weekend to open the season, beating Hamline 6-3 on March 19, before falling to St. Thomas 8-1 two days later. … Saint Mary's 7-2 loss to St. Olaf on March 14 snapped the Cardinals' season-best two-match winning streak. … The Cardinals enter Friday's nonconference match against Northwestern having never lost to the Eagles, boasting a 13-0 record — including 7-2 and 6-3 wins in each of the previous two seasons. … Trevor Smiley (Minnetonka, Minn.) picked up the Cardinals' lone win in their 8-1 loss to St. Thomas on March 21, rallying from a set down for a 2-6, 7-6 (2), 10-8 win at No. 4 singles. … With his win against St. Thomas, Smiley pushed his singles winning streak to five straight. … Smiley's five singles wins are tops among the Cardinals, with Gabe Graves (Littleton, Colo.) and Josh Janssen (Green Bay, Wis.) tied for second with three wins each. … Smiley (No. 4) and Graves (No. 5) are the only Cardinals to have played all six matches at the same position. … The 4-6, 6-0, 10-3 win by E.J. Hietala (Duluth, Minn.) at No. 6 singles against Loras on March 6 was his first collegiate singles victory. … Reilly Fredell (Colorado Springs, Colo.) leads the team with four doubles wins, one more than Graves. … Smiley/Brandon Kurilla (Hastings, Minn.) and Janssen/Evan Huemoeller (Owatonna, Minn.) have played all six matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively. SMU has used three different doubles combinations at No. 3. … With their 7-2 win over Loras and 6-3 victory against Wartburg this season, the Cardinals have improved to 67-24 in nonconference matches since 2012.
  NORTHWESTERN EAGLES SCOUTING REPORT
The Eagles enter Friday's contest riding a season-opening 11-match winning streak, including a 6-3 victory over Concordia in their last match on March 27. … Saint Mary's is the second of five matches against teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Along with Concordia and Saint Mary's, the Eagles also have St. Olaf, Gustavus and Hamline upcoming on their schedule. … Northwestern has posted four 9-0 wins during their current 11-match run, while also owning three 7-2 victories, and two wins by 6-3 and 5-4 counts. … Jack Geurkink leads the Eagles with a perfect 10-0 singles record. Adam Ryerse and Stewart Morrell are second to Geurkink with nine singles wins each. … Along with Geurkink's 10-game winning streak, Morrell enters Friday's contest having won nine straight. … As a team, Northwestern sports a 10-1 record at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, while going 9-2 at No. 2 and no. 5, and owning 7-4 records at No. 1 and No. 6. … Morrell leads the team with eight wins in doubles play, one more than Geurkink, Davis Pfaff, Matthew Wedin, and Adam Ryerse. … The Eagles are 26-7 in doubles matches through 11 contests, going 9-2 at No. 2 and 8-3 at No. 1 and No. 3.
