WINONA, Minn. —
Daniel Sessler (Brookfield, Ill.) was a busy man between the pipes for the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team this season — leading all Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference goalkeepers in saves.
Â
And Sessler's efforts did not go unnoticed by conference coaches.
Â
On Wednesday, the Cardinal junior was named Honorable-Mention All-MIAC when the league office announced its post-season awards.
Â
Sessler appeared in nine of the Cardinals' 10 conference games, stopping 73 of the 94 shots he faced in recording a 2.52 goals-against-average and .777 save percentage. Overall, Sessler was in goal for 17 of SMU's 18 contests, including 16 starts, and compiled a 1.96 GAA and .793 save percentage. He led the league with 119 saves — including equaling his career high with 12 saves on three different occasions — and recorded one shutout, a 12-save effort in a 0-0 tie against Concordia on Oct. 1.
Â
St. Olaf and Gustavus dominated the league's top individual honors. The Oles' Shea Bechtel was named MIAC Offensive Player of the Year and teammate Robi Buzakovic was tabbed MIAC Rookie of the Year, while the Gusties' Wesley Sanders picked up MIAC Defensive Player of the Year and GAC coach Tudor Flinham collected MIAC Coach of the Year accolades.
