WINONA, Minn. — New day, new team, same final decision — a shutout.
Â
For the second straight game — and the ninth time in 11 contests this season — the Saint Mary's University women's soccer team was involved in a game in which one team failed to score a goal.
Â
This time around, however, it was both teams who failed to find the back of the net, as the Cardinals battled UW-Stevens Point to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Ochrymowycz Field.
Â
Saint Mary's carried the majority of the play in the game's opening 45 minutes, and had two golden scoring chances — but
Lauren Ashe (Beaverton, Ore.) and
Ella Lahart (Sherwood, Ore.) both failed to convert from point-blank range, leading the game deadlocked heading into the intermission.
Â
The second half proved to be a mirror image of the first, with neither squad able to net the game-winner.
Â
Megan Nadal (Chino, Calif.) stopped all three shots she faced in the first half, while Mackenzie Munson (Plain City, Utah) made two saves in relief in the second half — including a diving save late in the game to preserve the 0-0 stalemate.
Â
The Cardinals (5-5-1 overall) are now off until next weekend, when they entertain Bethel in a 3:30 p.m. conference matchup, before heading to Grinnell, Iowa for a 3 p.m. nonconference contest against Grinnell.
