ORLANDO, Fla. — The Saint Mary's University men's tennis team took the court Monday looking to do something no team had been able to do this season — defeat Calvin.
The Knights, however, had other ideas, dealing the Cardinals a 9-0 nonconference setback in SMU's first match of their spring trip at the USTA National Campus.
"It was a tough day outdoors for the guys," said Saint Mary's coach
Jeff Halberg. "Give Calvin a ton of credit, they are an improved team over last year."
The Knights raced out to a 3-0 lead with 8-5, 8-2, and 8-4 wins in the three doubles matches, before posting straight-set victories in all six singles contests.
The Cardinals (5-5 overall) are back on the USTA National Campus courts on Tuesday, squaring off against Albion at 8 a.m. (EST) and vs. Adrian at noon (EST).
