• FOR THE RECORD: The Cardinals head into their final two conference matches of the regular season against Saint John’s and St. Olaf sitting at 5-12 overall, while sporting an 0-7 mark in conference play.
• LAST ACTION: The Cardinals, forced to play without two regulars due to injuries, could not keep pace with Macalester on April 11, falling to the Scots 9-0 in St. Paul.
• HITTING THE ROAD: Saint Mary’s will close out its regular-season schedule playing two of its final three contests away from the Winona Tennis Center. SMU played at Macalester on April 11, and will end its regular season at St. Olaf on Sunday, while closing out hits home schedule Saturday against Saint John’s. … SMU is 1-6 in its seven home matches this season, while going 4-6 away from the Winona TC.
• IN THE FALL: Evan Huemoeller (Owatonna, Minn.) led the way for the Cardinals at the 2023 ITA Regional/Midwest Open last September, collecting a pair of singles wins en route to reaching the ITA consolation semifinals. … Philip Apel (North Oaks, Minn.), Michael Johnson (Hastings, Minn.), Brendon Raabolle (Andover, Minn.), and Zak Farley (Sartell, Minn.) all picked up one singles victory at the Midwest Open.
• SINGLED OUT: Matt Besek (Winona, Minn.) heads into the weekend’s matches against Saint John’s and St. Olaf boasting a team-high eight singles wins, one more than Tucker Stene (Fridley, Minn.), followed by Apel with six and Trevor Smiley (Minnetonka, Minn.) with five. … Huemoeller has played all 16 matches at No. 1 singles and is the only Cardinal to have played every match at the same position. … Saint Mary’s is 39-57 in singles play this season.
• GOING THE DISTANCE: The Cardinals have had 21 singles matches extended to a third-set super-breaker this season, with SMU going 11-10 in those 21 contests. … SMU had four of its six singles matches against Albion on March 6 extended to a third set, with the Cardinals going 3-1 in those four contests. … Saint Mary’s had 25 singles contests go to a third set in 2023 — including three each in matches against Saint John’s, Northwestern (Minn.) and St. Norbert — and finished 14-11 in those 25 three-setters.

• DOUBLING UP: Huemoeller and Brendon Raabolle (Andover, Minn.) have teamed up to record a team-high five doubles wins, going 5-5 at No. 1. … The doubles teams of Caden Rodning (Mason City, Iowa)/Smiley, Rodning/Besek, and Johnson/Stene have all collected a pair of wins as a doubles combos. … Individually, Raabolle owns a team-best seven wins in doubles play, one more than Huemoeller and two up on Rodning. … As a team, SMU is 17-31 in doubles action this season. … Raabolle led the team in doubles wins with nine last season, going 9-9 — including 6-5 partnered with Rodning.
• TOTAL DOMINATION: With their 9-0 win over Martin Luther in their season opener on Jan. 27, the Cardinals pushed their winning streak to 21 straight against the Knights. SMU has never lost to Martin Luther in program history. …
• OUT OF THEIR LEAGUE: With their 5-5 record in nonconference play this season, the Cardinals are now 83-42 in non-MIAC matches since 2012.
SAINT JOHN’S SCOUTING REPORT:
• FOR THE RECORD: Saint John’s heads into its weekend matches against Saint Mary’s and Bethel sitting at 2-9 overall, including a 2-4 mark through the first six matches of the conference slate.
• LAST TIME OUT: SJU came up short in both of its conference matches last weekend, falling to St. Olaf 5-4 in Collegeville, Minn., last Saturday, before dropping a 6-3 decision at Macalester the following afternoon.
• ROAD WARRIORS: This weekend’s matches against Saint Mary’s and Bethel are the second and third of four consecutive road matches for the Johnnies, who will play at Northwestern on Thursday, before returning home for their regular-season finale against Carleton on April 28.
• HOME SWEET HOME: Saint John’s has picked up both of its wins this season on their home courts. SJU is 2-2 at home, while sitting at 0-7 away from the Donald McNeely Spectrum
• SINGLED OUT: Sam Wolden heads into the weekend leading the team with six dual-match singles victories, two more than Mark Rosen, and three up on Ryan Will, Daniel Perez, Mason Meyer, and Ian Aadland. … Will Deters has gone 7-0 in tournament play this season to share the team lead in overall singles wins (7) with Rosen. … Will has played every match at No. 1 singles, while Aadland has played all 11 contests at No. 2. SJU has used two different players at No. 3 and No. 4, with three Johnnies competing at No. 5 and four at No. 6. … As a team, SJU is 25-41 in dual-match singles play.
• DOUBLING UP: Deters/Alex Draeger has accounted for five of the Johnnies’ seven doubles wins in dual-match action, going 0-2 at No. 2 and 5-4 at No. 3. • LAST TIME OUT: The Oles were no match for cross-town rival Carleton last Monday, as the Knights dealt St. Olaf a 9-0 MIAC setback at Carleton’s Pat Lamb Tennis Courts in Northfield, Minn.
• ROAD WARRIORS: St. Olaf’s conference match against Saint Mary’s the Oles' 14th consecutive road match to open the season. St. Olaf, which was schedule to open a four-match regular season-ending homestand vs. SMU but was forced to move the match inside in Owatonna due to weather, will not play its first official home contest next Friday against Bethel. … St. Olaf is 3-10 on the road this season — including 0-8 in neutral-site matches.
• SINGLED OUT: Bogdan Vizoli enters the weekend owning a team-leading seven dual-match singles victories, being followed by Marjan Veldic with five, and Jakub Belik with three. Max Loesch and Jerusalem Thao have both collected two dual-match wins. … Vizoli also picked up a pair of tournament wins last fall and leads the team with nine overall singles wins, three more than Cathal Mee, and two up on Vizoli and Veldic. … Veldic is the only Oles to play all 13 matches at the same position, going 7-6 at No. 1 singles. … As a team, the Oles are 22-56 in dual-match singles play.
• DOUBLING UP: The doubles teams of Vizoli/Veldic and Belik/Loesch share the team lead in wins with four each, with five other doubles pairs each collecting two wins. … Vizoli/Veldic finished 2-1 in tournament play last fall, giving the pair six overall doubles victories. … St. Olaf has used 12 different doubles combinations — including two at No. 1 and six at both No. 2 and No. 3. … As a team, St. Olaf has gone 18-21 in dual-match doubles action this season.
