DUBUQUE, Iowa — Coming off a stellar outdoor season-opening performance last weekend in St. Louis, Mo., the Saint Mary's University track and field teams once again headed south Saturday afternoon, traveling to the University of Dubuque to take part in the Mississippi Rumble.
Â
And rumble the Cardinals did.
Â
The Cardinals picked up 14 Top 10 finishes — including three by both
Hanna Strom and
Chris Bulwa — as the SMU women's team placed sixth, while the men finished seventh
Â
Strom delivered an eighth-place showing in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters, and ran a leg in both the third-place 4x400 relay and the sixth-place 4x100 relay. Strom teamed with
Caeli McMahon,
Megan Frosch, and
Abbie Meyer to stop the clock in 4:32.46 in finishing third in the 4x400, before joining
Rachael Kubichka,
Samantha Munson, and Kalen Pray to place sixth in the 4x100 (53.45).
Â
Samantha Kubes had the team's highest individual finish, placing fifth in the hammer (47.01 meters), while also adding a seventh in the shot put (11.73m).
Morgan Wallendal chipped in a seventh in the discus (37.45m), Frosch posted a seventh in the 800 (2:35.40), and Munson clocked a time of 13.06 to finish eighth in the 100.
Â
Bulwa matched Strom's effort, notching a sixth in the 100 (10.87), and teaming up with
Eddie Paton,
Brady Johnson, and
Oliver Adamson to post a fifth-place time of 3:28.09 in the 4x400, and combining with Johnson, Adamson, and
Ben Kritsberg for a seventh-place time of 42.94 in the 4x100.
Â
Sean Smyth and
Henry Gathje each chipped in eighth place showings — Smyth in the 3,000 (9:29.49) and Gathje in the javelin (39.94m) — and
Dan Cooper delivered a 10th in the long jump (6.13m).
Â
The Cardinals are back in action next Saturday, when they return home, hosting the Saint Mary's Invitational — the lone home meet of the season. Field events are slated to kick off at 11 a.m., with running events beginning at noon.
