• LAST ACTION: Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) picked up a first-place finish, and Morgan Wallendal (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.) chipped in second-place efforts to lead the Cardinals at the WashU Carnival/Invitational last weekend in St. Louis, Mo.
• WASH U CARNIVAL/INVITE: Kubes won the hammer with a throw of 49.27 meters, while Wallendal delivered a second-place mark of 39.31 meters in the discus and Bulwa raced to a school-record time of 21.77 to place second in the 200. Other top five finishers included the men’s 4x100 relay team of Bulwa, Ben Kritsberg (Rosemount, Minn.), Brady Johnson (Elburn, Ill.), and Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.), which placed third (42.31), and Casen Fritz (Minnesota City, Minn.) with a fourth-place showing in the hammer (40.19m) | Recap
• AMONG THE NATION’S BEST: With her throw of 49.27 meters in the hammer at last weekend’s WashU Invitational, Kubes is sitting 13th in the nation in the event. … Bulwa’s school record-setting time of 21.77 in the 200 at the WashU Invitational last weekend has him sitting 34th in the country in the event.
• MIAC HONOR: Kubes collected her first-ever MIAC weekly honor, being named the conference’s Field Athlete of the Week after winning the hammer throw at the WashU Invitational last weekend.
• 2024 MIAC INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Cardinal men placed 10th in the two-day MIAC Indoor Championships, while the SMU women finished 11th. … Seven individuals brought home nine conference indoor honors. Chris Bulwa (Glenview, Ill.) and Morgan Wallendal (Litchfield, Minn.) were both recognized on the All-MIAC team for their third-place efforts in the 200 and shot put, respectively, for the Saint Mary’s track & field teams, while Bulwa (60), Casen Fritz (Minnesota City, Minn. / weight throw), Anna Becker (Cannon Falls, Minn. / weight throw), and the men’s 4x200 relay team of Bulwa, Oliver Adamson (Rochester, Minn.), Eddie Paton (Katy, Texas), and Brady Johnson (Elburn, Ill.) all picked up honorable-mention honors | Day 1 Recap * Day 2 Recap
• 2023 MIAC OUTDOOR CHAMPIONSHPS: Bulwa picked up honorable-mention honors in three events, and Kubes delivered an All-MIAC performance in the hammer throw to lead the Cardinals at the season-ending MIAC Outdoor Championships in Arden Hills, Minn. Bulwa placed fifth in the 100 (11.01), 200 (22.11), and in the 4x400 relay (42.58), while Kubes uncorked an all-conference throw of 48.57 meters to place third in the hammer.
